Introduction
Fleet admins in Motive can enable an "agriculture exception" for ELD drivers. This allows drivers to choose a farm location in the app and receive notifications when they enter or leave the 150 air miles around it. Additionally, any work recorded in that area is automatically labeled as an agriculture exception.
Note: This exception is only for drivers in the US. It turns off when drivers follow Canadian HOS rules in the Motive Driver App. Reference CFR 395.1(k). |
Steps: How to use current location as agricultural source using Driver App
1. Open the bottom drawer in the driver hub. Find and turn on the "Agriculture Exception" toggle. You'll then be taken to a map screen to select an agricultural source for the first time.
2. If you are at the agricultural source location, you can choose the current location as the agricultural source by tapping on the current location icon and hit Save location.
- If you are already on the Unregulated mode, it will simply save the location information.
- If you are on Regulated vehicle mode, it will prompt you to switch your current vehicle mode to Unregulated to record vehicle movement as Off-duty on the logs.
3. Change your current duty status to Off-duty before driving the vehicle.
4. Once the vehicle speed is above 5mph/8kph, you will be redirected to the driving lock screen where you can track the distance in air miles from agricultural sources (Note: 150 air miles = 172.6 road miles).
Note: The air miles counter will be visible only if you are on “unregulated” mode and are 0-156 air miles (exclusive range) from the agricultural source. |
5. Once you reach 145 air miles (or 5 air miles before exiting the boundary), you will be notified to switch to “Regulated” mode
- If the application is in the foreground, you will see the note added with the air miles counter.
- If the application is in the background, you will receive a push notification.
6. Stop the vehicle’s engine at a safe distance and click on the notification to switch to Regulated vehicle mode.
7. On logs detail, you will see a note added on the duty status stating “Operating under Agriculture Exception”
