- Below is a template that you can use to share in-cab alert updates with your Drivers. Please adjust based on your Dashcam model and the behaviors for which you activate in-cab alerts.
Subject: Activation of in-cab alerts for enhanced safety
Team,
Protecting our employees is our top priority. Motive dash cameras have already protected our team by making them aware of unsafe conduct and capturing video evidence for exoneration when you’re not at fault. They’ve also been instrumental in helping us better recognize, celebrate, and reward our safe Drivers.
To further enhance your protection, we are going to activate in-cab alerts, designed with your safety and well-being in mind.
How does this benefit you?
- Immediate feedback: Receive real-time alerts to correct unsafe behaviors like close following and cell phone usage, without manager intervention.
- Accident prevention: By addressing these behaviors instantly, we can significantly reduce the risk of accidents, ensuring your safety on the road.
You may be curious about what behaviors the system detects. Through in-cab audio alerts and a visual light bar, you are alerted to safety events in the following categories:
- Traffic signals & signs: Violations of posted signs and signals in local, state, or federal jurisdictions. This includes speeding and rolling through stop signs.
- Core risk: Fundamental driving principles with a high correlation to accidents, such as close following and unsafe lane changes.
- Driver awareness: Driver conduct that can potentially impact driving performance, such as drowsiness, cell phone use, and seat belt violations.
- Harsh driving: Behaviors generated due to sudden changes in direction and speed.
This page provides more information on how the alerts are defined and what they sound like. Please note that we have customized the default thresholds for select behaviors. For example, close following alerts trigger when you’ve been tailgating a vehicle for 30 seconds while driving over 40 mph, with a time-to-hit of 0.6 seconds.
If you have any questions, don't hesitate to reach out. We are also covering these changes in more detail at our upcoming safety meeting.
Best regards,
Safety Manager
