Introduction
The purpose of the FMCSA Study is to gain a deeper understanding of detention time, what causes it, and its impacts on safety and operations. Using data gathered via various Motive API endpoints will help to automate much of the data needed to capture detention time and its impact on the industry.
Benefits
- Customers have an opportunity to participate in a landmark study with a direct opportunity to influence Federal guidance on a serious issue affecting the industry.
- Opportunity to allow the VTTI to collect your Motive data to better understand why detention time happens, how often it happens, and what can be done about it.
- Participating carriers and drivers will be anonymous – FMCSA will not know who participates.

Steps: Enabling VTTI/FMCSA Detention Study integration with Motive App Marketplace
1. Click Get this App on the VTTI/FMCSA Detention Study app on the Motive app marketplace to notify us of your interest in the study.
2. The Motive Developer Support team will pass your contact information to VTTI.
3. VTTI will contact the customer and, if appropriate, provide a link for the customer to activate the integration.
4. Further onboarding will be done on VTTI's end.
Note: VTTI will keep the Customer information confidential. It will NOT be shared with FMCSA.
