How do I reboot my Asset Gateway Mini?

    Description

    This SOP should be followed when attempting to reset an AG mini via the pinhole reset method.

    Glossary of Definitions 

    Asset Gateway (AG) - Logs location data and provides an LTE connection for transmission to Motive Servers.

    Indicator LED - The LED light positioned right below the Motive Logo on the AG Mini. It serves to help indicate the current status of the device.

    Admin Panel - Motive Backend Debugging tool for Employees Only. 

     

    Tools Needed

    • SIM ejector tool and/or paper clip

    Procedure: Resetting the AG Mini

    1. Locate the pinhole on the right side of the AG mini.
    2. Insert the SIM ejector tool/paperclip into the pinhole depressing the internal button for 10 Seconds (depressing the reset button for this duration is vital to ensure the AG does NOT enter unwanted modes)

    1. Ensure that the button is released after 10 seconds to simply reboot the device. The device will then reboot, and the indicator LED will blink blue 3 times.

    2. To check whether your device has successfully rebooted, check your fleet dashboard after a couple of minutes to see if the asset’s location has been updated. If it has, then the reboot was successful.

     

    WARNING: Failure to release the reset button after 10 seconds may lead to an unwanted state denoted by the various indicator LED behaviors mentioned below.

    1. Short press (around 1 second) - Single wake-up, blink system status.  If the device is in “ship” mode, this also causes it to exit “ship” mode.
      • If the device’s last attempt to connect to Motive is successful, it will blink blue once.
      • If the device’s last attempt to connect to Motive is unsuccessful, it will blink yellow once.
      • If the device is in “ship” mode, it will blink blue 3 times.

    2. 5-second press - Puts the device in “ship” mode.
      • Once the button is released, the device will blink red once and go into “ship” mode.
      • Everything is off in “ship” mode until the pinhole button is pressed once.
      • To exit this mode, depress the reset button for 1 second. The LED indicator will blink blue 3 times following completion. Please note that exiting from “ship” mode doesn’t count as rebooting the device.

    3. 15 or more second press - Reverts the AG Mini’s firmware to the previous software version. This should only be done when advised by Motive Engineering.  
      • The device will attempt to revert to the previously installed firmware and then reboot.  It will blink blue 3 times during the reboot.
      • If the device is put into this state, please wait and do not press the button again as doing so may put the device into an unrecoverable state.

     

    If the customer is still having difficulty rebooting the device, Ask them to contact Motive Support.
