Introduction
AI Collision Detection enhances fleet safety by automatically identifying low-severity collisions in real time using computer vision. The system detects collisions that occur with other vehicles within the camera’s field of view and surfaces validated events directly in the Fleet Dashboard, improving visibility, accuracy, and response time.
What’s New?
Motive has introduced an AI-powered collision detection model that utilizes computer vision to detect collisions within the camera’s field of view.
This update includes:
- On-edge AI detection that analyzes footage in real-time to identify potential collisions for the Motive Safety review team to review and filter out false positives.
- Support for low-severity collisions, such as sideswipes, light frontal impacts, and rear-ending events when the colliding vehicle is visible.
- Automatic surfacing of confirmed collisions in the Fleet Dashboard, along with associated alerts and notifications.
This capability addresses a significant gap in traditional telematics-based collision detection, enabling fleets to detect incidents that previously went unnoticed.
Supported Dashcam Models and Firmware:
AI Collision Detection is supported on DC-53 and DC-54. Works on AIDC (DC 53, 54) firmware version greater than v53008.
How does this help our customers?
AI-based collision detection gives fleets better visibility and reduces missed incidents:
- Improves safety visibility by detecting low-severity collisions that telematics alone can’t identify.
- Supports faster investigations with near-real-time detection and surfacing of events.
- This new CV capability, combined with our existing telematics system, gives customers broader coverage on low‑intensity collisions while preserving our strong capture rates on high-severity collisions, without adding noise.
Rollout Plan or Feature Go-Live Date?
This feature is included by default for customers using supported dashcam models. No configuration is required.
Feature Launch Date:
- Full rollout on 16-Dec-2025.
- Markets: US, Mexico, Canada.
