Introduction
The Access Controls feature in Motive Analytics is a new, flexible sharing model that allows users to intentionally manage access to their custom-created answers and dashboards. The new sharing module enables users to assign either Viewer (read-only) or Editor (modify content and manage sharing) permissions to specific individuals or roles within their company.
Overview
What’s New?
We've introduced access controls to Motive Analytics, providing users with granular control over the visibility and editing capabilities of their custom-created content. This feature implements a sharing model, departing from the previous all-or-nothing visibility.
- Default Restricted Access: All new custom answers and dashboards start in a restricted state, visible only to the creator until explicitly shared.
- Intentional Sharing: You can now share content with specific individuals or roles within your company.
- Two Permission Levels: The permission levels are as follows:
- Viewer: Allows read-only access. Viewers can duplicate the content to edit their own version and request editor access.
- Editor: Allows full modification of content, structure, filters, and visualizations, and includes the ability to manage sharing (add/remove other users).
Access Notifications: Users receive notifications via email and/or the notification center for new sharing grants or requests for permission.
How does this feature help users?
- Reduce Unintended Exposure: All new custom content starts in a restricted state, visible only to the creator until explicitly shared.
- Granular Access Control: Users can intentionally share content with specific individuals or roles, assigning either Viewer (read-only) or Editor (modify structure, manage sharing) permissions.
- Scalable Collaboration: The new model supports scalable collaboration and allows users to request access via notifications, making it easier to work together on analytics content.
