Introduction
AI-powered Eating Detection helps fleets identify when drivers are eating while driving, a form of distracted driving that can impact road safety. When detected, Motive generates a safety event and can trigger an in-cab alert, enabling fleets to review and coach drivers on safer behavior.
What’s new?
- Fleets can now detect eating behavior using AI-powered dashcams.
- Eating events are generated when a driver is holding or eating food while driving above defined thresholds.
- In-cab alerts can notify drivers in real time when eating is detected.
- Eating events appear in the Safety > Events page with video and event details (when available).
- Eating events are categorized by severity based on vehicle speed (Low, Medium, High).
- When eating and distraction are detected together, the system records only the Eating event to avoid duplication.
How does this help fleets?
- Improves driver safety: Identifies and reduces distracted driving caused by eating
- Enables effective coaching: Provides objective event data for driver review and coaching workflows
- Reduces noise: Prevents duplicate events by prioritizing Eating over general distraction
- Increases visibility: Surfaces eating-related risks in safety events and reporting
Rollout plan
- Launch date: March 31, 2026
- Regions: Available to supported fleets (US, EU, MX, CAN)
- Customer requirements: No additional setup required
