Introduction
Motive’s Environmental Sensors enable you to monitor and manage temperature of your fleets while they are on the road. Installing Asset Gateway in the right way to be aligned with the Environmental Sensors is crucial to get the most out of both devices.
Steps: Installing Asset Gateway for Environmental Sensors
Note: The Asset Gateway for Environmental Sensor uses, MUST be cable powered with the Motive cable 4020.
Mounting Asset Gateway
1. Start by finding a suitable location to mount Asset Gateway to the reefer trailer.
Ideally the Asset Gateway should be mounted facing the sun for optimal solar input, either on the reefer itself or if there are obstructions like an exhaust, off to the side with the angled bracket provided.
Note: Don’t install Asset Gateway too close to the exhaust of the reefer as the output air will damage it. Instead, next to the reefer, on the bulkhead of the trailer is a good location. Below are a couple of potential install locations.
2. Use the screws provided in the Asset Gateway Kit and mount the AG to the Reefer trailer. In case of any questions, refer to our Asset Gateway installation video.
3. Install the horizontal mounts with a solar mount/bracket plate and remove the solar peel sticker after the installation.
4. Write down the serial number of the Asset Gateway as you will need this to assign it to the Environmental Sensor. This number can be located either on the side of the Asset Gateway unit next to the DB15 connector where the cable connects or on the side of the packaging box.
Note: If the AG is to be mounted off to one side, mount it on the same side as the reefer controller panel, so the 4020 cable can be tucked inside the reefer to prevent unwanted tampering, and reach the power source.
Connecting the Asset Gateway to Power
1. Connect Cable 4020 to the Asset Gateway. Cable 4020 has two connection points: Power and Ground.
2. Once the Asset Gateway has been mounted and one end of Cable 4020 has been connected to the DB15 connector, route the cable discreetly through the reefer unit to protect the cables from being tampered with.
3. To route the cable discreetly, cut the fuse connected to the Power wire and butt splice the fuse once the cable is routed all the way next to the reefer controller panel.
Note: In order to get constant temperature readings and prevent parasitic drain when the reefer is not in operation, we recommend that the AG be installed to the switched ignition power source. There will also be variations in the install instructions due to the make and model of the reefer unit. If you have any questions, please contact your local Carrier or Thermo King dealer.
Installing for Thermo King
We recommend connecting Asset Gateway to the switch ignition power source. This is normally located at the F10 fuse location (normally referred to as On/Off Relay) in the fuse box.
1. Test this location using a multimeter to ensure this fuse location reads between 9V and 32V when the reefer is powered on and reads < 9V when the reefer is powered off to ensure we have found the switched ignition power source.
2. Make sure that the ground end is properly connected and grounded to CHASSIS GROUND to finish the installation
Installing for Carrier
We recommend that for Carrier units, the power cable gets connected to SATPWR connector, which will act as the power source only when the Reefer unit is on. SATPWR connector is generally located below the Reefer controller panel or in the fuse box location.
1. Test this location using a multimeter to ensure this fuse location reads between 9V and 32V when the reefer is powered on and reads < 9V when the reefer is powered off to ensure we have found the switched ignition power source.
2. Make sure that the ground end is properly connected and grounded to CHASSIS GND to finish the installation
Note: Variations on where the SATPWR connect & where to ground will vary depending on the make, model, and condition of your reefer.
3. After the power and ground have been properly installed, you should now be getting direct power from the cable and the reefer.
4. If your Asset Gateway has already been assigned, to double check, you can head to your Fleet Dashboard and check what the Asset Gateway’s current mode of operations is.
5. If you haven’t assigned your Asset Gateway, take note of the Asset Gateway serial number on the device, and head to the Fleet Dashboard or your Fleet App to assign your Asset Gateway.
6. If the reefer is off and it’s showing cable connected, and if the reefer is on and it’s showing cable powered, then the install has been done properly, and you’re able to install, connect and pair your Environmental Sensors.
