Custom Map Layers allow fleets to upload and manage their own spatial data in Fleet View maps so they can see vehicles and assets in the context of proprietary infrastructure, boundaries, and other map overlays.
Overview
Custom Map Layers help enterprise fleets add operational context to Fleet View, especially in off-map environments such as private roads, utility grids, well pads, and jurisdiction boundaries.
Key capabilities include:
- GeoJSON upload: Fleet Admins can upload GeoJSON files as custom map layers from Admin settings.
- Layer configuration: Admins can set a layer name, colour, opacity, and tooltip field for each uploaded layer.
- Fleet View access: Uploaded layers appear in Fleet View under the Custom section in map controls, where users can turn them on or off.
- Feature details: Users can interact with map features to view additional details in the context menu.
- Saved visibility: Layer toggle state persists per user across sessions.
- Set up permissions: Users can be given permissions for viewing and editing custom map layers

After a custom map layer is uploaded, fleet users can view it in Fleet View on the Fleet Dashboard.
To view a custom map layer:
- Open Fleet View in the Fleet Dashboard.
-
Open the map controls panel.
- Go to the Custom section.
-
Turn the custom layer on by clicking it.
-
The relevant areas on the map are highlighted.
-
Zoom in or hover over a feature on the map to view its details in the context menu or side drawer. Tooltips are customisable when setting up the custom map layer.
The layer visibility setting is saved per user, so the layer can remain enabled when the user returns to Fleet View later.
