Door & Environmental Sensor

Overview

Door & Environmental Sensors give fleets real-time visibility into refrigerated assets by combining door, temperature, and humidity monitoring in a single device. Fleet Managers and Fleet Admins can see exactly when reefer doors open and close, monitor conditions inside every zone, all from the Motive Fleet Dashboard.

  • Monitor Reefer: Use continuous temperature and humidity monitoring to keep reefers within a defined range.
  • Track door activity: The Door and Environmental Sensors help detect both swing and roll-up doors in real time.
  • Configure Alerts: Create real-time email and SMS alerts when doors are left open too long, or reefer temperatures move outside the set thresholds.
  • Review Reports: Use Reefer Activity and Door Sensor Events reports to get a historical view of the door status, temperature & humidity data for a specific reefer.

Door Sensor

As a Door Sensor, , it keeps Fleet Managers aware of door movement and various environmental factors:

  • Allows monitoring of door opening and closing for both swing and roll-up doors.
  • Provides access to historical data of door opening and closing times
  • Allows you to set up alerts to notify the fleet admins when the door has been left open for an extended period of time.

Environmental Sensor

As an Environmental Sensor, it keeps Fleet Managers aware of various environmental factors:

  • Allows real-time monitoring of the temperature and humidity of fleets.
  • Provides access to historical temperature reports to help with any load claims.
  • Set up temperature alerts to be notified whenever the reefer temperature is out of the set range.

These sensors are compatible with all reefer makes and models, eliminating the need for additional Third-party reefer accessories.

Unpairing and repairing Door & Environmental Sensors

A Vehicle Gateway is required to get the most out of the Door & Environmental Sensor. In case the current Vehicle Gateway needs to be replaced, the Door & Environmental Sensor will need to be unpaired from the current Vehicle Gateway and then re-paired to a new vehicle Gateway for the sensors to function properly.

  1. Sign in to the Fleet Dashboard and click the Admin button.
  1.  Click Organization from the dropdown menu and select Assets from the list.
  2. Select the Vehicle Gateway you want to replace. Click the three-dotted button on the desired Asset.
  3. Click Edit Asset from the dropdown.

  4. Scroll down to Sensors and click Remove.
  5. Click Save.
  1. Add the new Vehicle Gateway to the Fleet Dashboard if you have a new one or assign an existing Vehicle to the Door & Environmental sensor.

Repairing the Door & Environmental Sensors

  1. Press and hold the reset button of the Door & Environmental Sensor for 4 seconds, and then release. The LED will blink red once. This indicates the sensor being unbound from the previous Vehicle, and ready to be re-paired
  2. Press and release the same reset button, and the LED will start blinking blue for 20 seconds. This indicates that the Door & Environmental Sensor is in the process of connecting to the newly assigned Vehicle.
  3. Once the Vehicle Gateway and sensor have paired, the telematics data starts showing up on the dashboard.
  4. Confirm the connection by logging in to the Fleet Dashboard and viewing if Door & Environmental Sensor data is available. Alternatively, check the LED after 10 minutes of the pairing process. If the LED is a solid blue, the connection is successful. If it shows blinking blue still, then the device is still in the process of pairing.

Viewing Real-Time Door & Environmental Monitoring from Fleet View

The real-time monitoring feature of Door & Environmental Sensors allows you to access all the temperature and door status-related information of reefers through the Fleet View.

Viewing Asset Level Temperature Telematics

The Live page in Assets allows you to have a real-time insight into the asset's door status, temperature, and humidity.

Note: Each vehicle gateway supports up to 6 sensors, allowing independent temperature and humidity readings for each zone in a single or multi-zone reefer. Door &  Environmental Sensor can only monitor, not remotely control, temperature, humidity, and door status.
