Introduction
Self-serve Locate My Asset lets fleet admins enable on-demand location for Asset Gateway Mini (AG‑31 devices) directly from the Fleet Dashboard. Once enabled, this feature helps fleets locate high-value assets on their own from both Fleet View and the Fleet App without having to contact Motive Support.
What’s New?
- Company-level self-serve control: Admins can now enable Locate My Asset themselves from Admin > Fleet View as a company-level setting, instead of contacting Support or Engineering to enable it for their fleet.
- On-demand refresh in Fleet View and Fleet App: Once enabled and the device checks in on its next scheduled ping, a Refresh button appears on the asset Live and Profile screens within Fleet View and in the Fleet App, allowing users to request a real-time location on demand.
- Enablement options: The setting can be applied to all Asset Gateway Mini devices or limited to AG‑31.2+ units, giving fleets more control over which hardware takes on the additional battery load.
- Battery impact: Enabling Locate My Asset reduces expected battery life by ~25% for AG‑31.2+ and ~40% for AG‑31.1. These changes take effect after the feature is enabled and the device has gone through its next scheduled ping.
- Device compatibility: Locate My Asset self‑serve is available for Asset Gateway Mini (AG‑31 devices) but not supported on Asset Gateway Solar (AG‑55).

- Faster theft recovery: Instead of waiting up to 12 hours for the next scheduled ping from battery-powered trackers, on-demand asset location refresh gives operations teams an up-to-date asset location, helping prevent theft, locate misplaced assets, or conduct yard hunts on large job sites.
- Control over battery tradeoffs: Admins can choose whether to enable Locate My Asset for all AG Mini devices or only newer AG‑31.2+ hardware, balancing responsiveness with battery life on older devices.
- Clear guidance: Built-in explanations for when the setting will take effect (after the next device ping) and how it will impact battery reduce confusion and unplanned maintenance.
