3. If the Asset Gateway Mini is cable-powered, you can turn on the asset’s engine, and if it’s indoors, bring the asset outdoors so that the Asset Gateway can get a clear line of sight for a GPS fix. Wait for another 15-30 minutes, and you should be seeing the GPS location show up on your dashboard.

FAQs

What cable types are supported for AG Mini installation in the Fleet App?

From the Fleet App installation flow, you can install any cable-powered AG Mini with the following options for cable selection:

  • ABS cable (plug‑and‑play)
  • 3‑wire cable
  • 8‑wire cable

Each cable type has its own guided steps and verification checks.

What does Unpowered check-in rate mean, and which option should I choose?

The Unpowered check-in rate controls how often a battery-powered AG Mini sends location updates when it is not externally powered. Lower check-in intervals provide more frequent updates but consume more battery, while longer intervals help extend battery life. The Fleet App highlights 12 hours as the recommended option to balance visibility and battery performance.

Can I skip the guided installation steps if I already know how to wire the device?

Yes. During the cable-powered install, you can choose to skip the guided installation. This option is designed for experienced installers who already know the wiring and mounting steps and only need to connect the device and run tests if necessary.

Why do I still need to run a GPS and Cellular/LTE test before mounting when the device is cable-powered?

Even for cable-powered installs, running a signal test before mounting ensures your chosen location has strong GPS and Cellular/LTE connectivity. This prevents mounting the device where signals are weak or blocked, which can reduce tracking accuracy and reliability.

How do I run the GPS and Cellular/LTE test for a cable-powered install?

Hold or place the AG Mini in the intended mounting location and tap AG in chosen location. Then use the provided pin to press the pinhole reset button on the side of the device. When the LED flashes blue, tap Light flashed blue in the app to start the test. The Fleet App then shows if GPS and Cellular/LTE are verified, weak, or failed.

What do the different LED colors mean during cable-powered installation?

If the LED does not flash blue, the app prompts you to select the LED color and follow specific guidance:

  • White: The device is still booting or updating. Wait at least 5 minutes before pressing the pinhole again.
  • Orange: The device is overheated and needs to cool down. Wait at least 5 minutes before pressing the pinhole again.
  • Red: The device battery is low. You’ll be given the option to select another device to continue the installation.

What should I do if GPS or Cellular/LTE signals are weak or failed?

If the test results show weak or failed GPS/LTE, check how and where the AG Mini is installed. Make sure it has a clear view of the sky and is not blocked by metal or enclosed spaces. Reposition the device according to the in‑app guidance and rerun the test until GPS and Cellular/LTE are verified.

What is the difference between ABS cable and 3‑wire cable installs?

  • ABS cable: Primarily plug‑and‑play. Select ABS cable, follow the mounting instructions, connect the AG Mini and ABS module using the specified connectors, and then run a power test while the asset is tethered to a vehicle.
  • 3‑wire cable: Requires manual wiring of ground, power (red), and optional AUX lines. You follow guided steps to connect each wire, choose the correct power source (constant or intermittent), and then run a power test and, if configured, AUX line tests.

How do I run the power test for an ABS cable installation?

After mounting the device and connecting it to the ABS module, follow these steps:

  1. Tether the asset to the vehicle and follow in‑app instructions before turning on the ignition.
  2. Use the pin to press the pinhole reset button on the AG Mini to send a test signal.
  3. Tap Reset button pressed in the Fleet App.
  4. The app shows Testing power while the test runs, then displays Power verified when the connection is successful.

How do I test power after wiring a 3‑wire cable?

After connecting ground and power wires:

  1. Follow the in‑app instructions under send a testing signal.
    • If using constant power, press the reset button directly.
    • If using intermittent/ignition power, first tether the asset to a vehicle and turn the ignition on, then press the reset button.
  2. Tap Reset button pressed in the Fleet App.
  3. The app shows a Testing power screen and then confirms Power verified when the wiring and power source are correct.

What is the AUX line in a cable-powered install, and why should I set it up?

An AUX line allows the AG Mini to monitor additional signals, such as ignition, engine hours, or other functions that provide voltage. After power is verified, you can tap Set up AUX line, name the AUX line (for example, Main Motor), and configure its voltage logic so the system knows when the line should be considered on. This enables more detailed utilization and activity tracking for your asset.

When is the cable-powered installation considered complete in the Fleet App?

The installation is complete after you:

  1. Mount the AG Mini and confirm AG is mounted.
  2. Connect all required cables and confirm AG is connected (for ABS, Connected to ABS Module).
  3. Successfully pass the power test.

The app then displays a completion screen where you can either view the asset paired with your Asset Gateway or install more devices.
