    Introduction

Motive’s Positive Driving Behavior Recognition feature helps fleets celebrate and reinforce safe driving habits. By automatically tagging positive driving events, fleet managers can recognize and reward drivers for their proactive safety actions, fostering a culture of engagement and continuous improvement.

    How Positive Driving Helps You

Positive driving events highlight behavior that demonstrates safe and defensive driving techniques. Motive currently recognizes the following positive behavior :

    • Safe Distancing: The driver maintains or creates a safe following distance after a third-party vehicle merges into their lane, reducing collision risks.
    • Alert Driving: The driver demonstrates quick situational awareness and takes proactive action to avoid a potential collision caused by unexpected obstacles or other drivers.

    Positive Driving Behavior Overview

Fleet managers can view positive driving events in the following places:

    • Events List Page: Automatically tagged positive driving behavior appears here, alongside other safety events.
    • Event Details Page: Managers can manually tag additional positive driving behavior to ensure comprehensive recognition.
    • Safety Events Report: A summary of all driving events and positive behavior can be accessed in reports for tracking and analysis.

Note: When a positive driving event (Safe Distancing or Alert Driving) is generated, it is dismissed in the coaching workflow because the underlying unsafe event could otherwise impact the Safety Score.
    • The event still appears in the Events List, Event Details, and Reports, but is marked as Dismissed.

    Positive Driving Behavior Benefits

Recognizing positive driving behavior offers multiple benefits:

    • Increases Driver Engagement: Drivers feel valued and motivated to maintain safe driving habits.
    • Builds Trust: Encouraging and rewarding good behavior fosters a more positive relationship between fleets and drivers.
    • Enhances Safety Culture: Reinforcing proactive safety actions helps create a fleet-wide commitment to safe driving.
    • Reduces Coaching Burden: Managers can balance coaching by acknowledging positive behaviors and making feedback more constructive.
Note: Fleet Admins can override the automatic dismissal. Changing a dismissed event to Coachable or other statuses causes the underlying unsafe event to impact the Safety Score.

    Safety Score Impact

    • Positive driving events do not add points within the current safety scoring framework.

    • Automatic dismissal ensures scores remain unaffected by the harsh event that resulted in positive behavior.
