Question
What constitutes a Lane Swerve?
Answer
A Lane Swerve occurs when a vehicle unintentionally drifts or weaves within or across its lane, typically indicating driver fatigue, distraction, or inattention.
Question
What is a Lane Swerve Event?
Answer
A Lane Swerve Event is generated when multiple lane swerves occur within a short timeframe, indicating a pattern of risky driving behavior that warrants review or coaching. Turn signal use is not a factor in these detections.
Question
Is there an in-cab alert for Lane Swerving?
Answer
No, in-cab alerts are not currently available for Lane Swerving detection; however, they are expected to be released in early 2026 with future updates.
Question
Will Lane Swerving events impact the Safety Score?
Answer
Lane Swerving events are not currently factored into Motive's Safety Score. However, they are slated for inclusion in the first half of 2026.
Question
How is Lane Swerving severity determined?
Answer
Severity is based on the average vehicle speed across all individual lane swerves in the event:
- Low: 35–45 mph
- Medium: 45–55 mph
- High: 55+ mph
Question
Can Lane Swerving events be configured by the customer?
Answer
No, Lane Swerving is not currently configurable through the Motive Web Dashboard. Adjustments can be made by submitting a request to Customer Support. We anticipate offering full self-service customization in 2026, with additional updates planned thereafter.
Question
Does the Lane Swerving model work at any speed or on any road type?
Answer
Lane Swerving AI is currently optimized to detect fatigue & distraction for highway-like conditions, functioning effectively at speeds of 50 mph or faster on relatively straight roads.
Question
What happens if the dashcam can't clearly see the lane lines?
Answer
Detection accuracy may decrease. Poor visibility from worn lane lines, glare, darkness, or obstructions can result in missed or invalidated events.
Question
Can Lane Swerving AI detect why the driver swerved (e.g., avoiding debris)?
Answer
The AI model is designed exclusively to identify lateral movement patterns. It does not analyze the cause of swerving, nor does it monitor turn signal usage or driver-facing behavior.
