Introduction
Enhanced Door Opening Alerts & a new Door Sensor Events Report reduce alert noise by letting fleets filter door-open notifications by duration and geofence and pairing every event with its video footage in a new report. This allows fleets to focus on real theft events and investigate them in minutes, not hours.
What’s New?
The enhanced Door Open Alert configuration adds two new optional filters in the existing Alerts area of the Fleet Dashboard:
- Duration: alert only when the door has been open longer than a set threshold.
- Geofence: alert only when the door opens inside or outside of selected geofences or geofence categories.
Both of these new filters can be combined. Existing door-open alerts continue to fire as configured; the new fields are opt-in.
The new Door Sensor Events Report is available in the Fleet Dashboard within Reports.
- The Door Sensor Events report lives in a new Security section within Reports.
- Each row of the report is one door-open event with its start time, duration, sensor and location, geofence, vehicle/asset, driver, and video recall status.
- Each event includes a direct link to the recall video when available.
- Reports can be exported as CSV or PDF, with video URLs included in the export.
How does this help our customers?
- Fewer false alarms: Duration and geofence filters cut alert noise so managers only see events worth investigating.
- Faster investigations: Every door-open event in one report, with video one click away, so there’s no more guessing incident times or sifting through hours of recall footage.
- Stronger driver accountability: A complete, time-stamped event history makes it easier to audit incidents and reinforce safe-handling practices.

FAQs
How do I set up a duration-based alert?
Select the Door Open Alert and configure the optional Duration field to your minimum threshold in minutes. The alert will fire only after the door has been open longer than that threshold.
How do I set up a geofence-based alert?
Select the Door Open Alert and select one or more geofences (or a geofence category) in the new Geofence field, then choose either “Trigger when door opens inside” or “Trigger when door opens outside.” You must pick one; inside and outside cannot both be selected on the same alert.
Can I combine the duration and geofence filters?
Yes. When both are configured, the alert fires only after the door has been open for the configured duration and the geofence condition is true.
What happens to my existing door-open alerts?
They keep firing exactly as configured. The new Duration and Geofence fields are optional and default to off; existing alerts are not modified by this release. Opening an existing alert shows the new fields if you want to add filters.
An event in the report shows “Failed” for Video Recall Status. What does that mean?
The door sensor registered the event, but the system was unable to retrieve the associated video typically because the camera was disconnected, had no power, or had no cell connection at the time of the event.
Why am I getting fewer alerts than before?
That is the intended outcome of adding Duration and Geofence filters. The alert volume drops because Motive only notifies on events that match the newly configured conditions. Fleet admins can adjust the threshold or remove a filter to widen the alert criteria.
Where is the new Door Sensor Events Report located?
In the Fleet Dashboard under Reports, listed in the Security category.
