Overage Detection uses AI vision on trucks equipped with AI Dashcam Plus to automatically identify overflowing bins during pickup. Fleet managers can review overage events with supporting video evidence to reduce disputes and create revenue opportunities through bin upsells or fines for repeat offenders.
Overview
Overage Detection gives waste fleets a consistent, automated way to capture bin overages without relying on manual driver reporting. It helps fleets:
- Automatically detect overflowing bins using AI vision that recognizes commercial trash bins and confirms overflow during pickup without driver input.
- Review video evidence for each detected overage so fleet managers have defensible documentation for customer disputes and billing.
- Assess overage severity using four severity bands that indicate how much a bin is overflowing, from very low to high.
- Identify overage trends across routes and customers to optimize container sizing, route planning, and customer coaching.
How Overage Detection works
- A truck equipped with AI Dashcam Plus captures a pickup event.
- An on-device model recognizes commercial trash bins and triggers video capture when a target bin is detected.
- The captured video is analyzed to confirm whether the bin is overflowing.
- Confirmed overage events appear in Web App > Operations > Overages.
Overage severity bands
Each detected overage is assigned a severity band based on how far bin contents exceed the bin rim:
| Severity | Overflow height |
| Very Low | 0-3 inches |
| Low | 3-6 inches |
| Medium | 6-12 inches |
| High | 12+ inches |
Review overage events
Overage events can be accessed from Web App > Operations > Overages.
Events can be sorted by address, vehicle, or driver.
