Introduction

This article introduces the availability of the AI Dashcam Firmware v61.

What's New?

AI Dashcam Firmware v61 improves geofence privacy controls, speed-limit and road-facing detection, video recall reliability, and overall device stability.

How does this help our customers?

These updates improve the reliability of AI-powered safety features and the in-cab camera experience:

  • Geofence privacy controls: When a geofence is set to FULL_OFF, recording remains disabled and the camera LEDs remain off after a restart.
  • AI event controls: Device configuration can now suppress all AI events, selected events, or no events.
  • Remote recalibration: DDR recalibration can be requested with a temperature range and waits when the camera is outside that range.
  • Speed-limit detection: Production builds support truck-specific speed-limit sign classification by default. Support for regional speed units such as miles per hour (MPH) and kilometers per hour (KPH), is included but disabled by default.
  • Speeding-event accuracy: New checks identify stale GPS data, zero or negative values, and other invalid speed inputs. These checks are disabled by default.
  • Road-facing detection: Updated camera-obstruction detection and false-positive filtering improve detection quality and are enabled by default. Speed Mode 4 is now the default processing speed, and riders are recognized as a separate object category.
  • Additional AI capabilities: Stop-sign instruction-box detection, microsleep alerts, and highway speed filtering for unsafe-parking events are included but disabled by default. Microsleep processing uses separate confidence levels for recorded events and in-cab alerts.
  • Camera-health monitoring: The AI Integrity Manager can log possible camera-placement and image-clarity issues without changing alert behavior.
  • System reliability: AI processing, remote diagnostics, error logging, OCR warning handling, and automated testing were improved. Radio-channel health thresholds were also adjusted to prevent temporary OCR fluctuations from causing incorrect channel disablement.

Bug fixes

  • Video recall and timelapse: Fixed zero-second and extremely short timelapse or hyperlapse files, missed preceding segments, and incorrect file-check intervals.
  • USB and restart stability: Fixed an issue that could leave the camera with a blue LED and require a hard reset after USB power cycling. This update also fixed USB reconnection failures during controlled restarts, including over-the-air firmware updates, on older DC53 devices.
  • Display and camera communication: Fixed repeated display timeouts and communication failures between the camera and its image-processing components.
  • OCR during mode changes: Fixed OCR failures after the network closed and restarted by correctly resetting the text-detection area.
