Safety risk tags and risk factors provide additional context for safety events in the Fleet Dashboard. They help fleet managers quickly understand what occurred during a trip and prioritize which events require review or coaching.
Overview
When a safety event is detected by Motive, the event may include one or more risk tags or risk factors that describe the context surrounding the behavior. Risk tags may be automatically applied through Motive’s video analysis models or manually added by Fleet Admins or Fleet Managers.
These tags:
Supplement the primary unsafe behavior that triggered the event
Provide additional insight into what occurred during the trip
Help managers prioritize review and coaching
Support filtering and trend analysis
Risk tags may be:
Automatically applied after video analysis
Manually added or updated by Fleet Admins or Fleet Managers
Not every event will include risk tags. Tags are applied only when relevant behaviors are detected or when manually added.
If an event is still being processed, the Tags field may display “Analysis in progress…” until evaluation is complete.
| Note: Additional unsafe behavior tags are only available for fleets that have enabled the feature in the Fleet Dashboard. |
How Risk Tags Work
Risk tags provide additional context beyond the primary behavior that triggered the event. These help Fleet Admin to:
Identify unsafe driving patterns
Monitor recurring risk trends
Focus on high-priority events
Maintain consistent review processes
Risk tags do not replace the primary event type. Instead, they enhance visibility into contributing behaviors.
Enable or disable additional unsafe behavior tags
Fleet Admins can control whether additional unsafe behavior tags are displayed.
To enable or disable unsafe behavior tags:
Log in to the Fleet Dashboard > Admin icon.
Click Safety.
Select Unsafe Behavior Detection and Event Intelligence.
Scroll to the Event Intelligence section and click Edit.
Turn behavior tags On or Off based on your preference.
Click Save.
Only Fleet Admins can modify this setting.
Add, remove, or change risk tags on an event
Fleet Managers and Fleet Admins can edit risk tags and risk factors on individual events.
To update tags:
Go to Safety.
Click Events.
Select the desired event.
On the right panel, locate the behavior tags under the event severity.
Click + Add tags.
Select or remove tags as needed.
If tags already exist:
Tag can be removed by clicking the “x” on the tag chip.
Updated tags will reflect in event filters and reporting views.
Fleet Admins can also use filters in the Events tab to search and review events by specific risk tags.
Best practices for managing risk tags
To maintain consistency and data integrity:
Maintain consistent tagging standards across managers.
Avoid over-tagging events unless the context clearly supports it.
Review tags after video analysis is complete.
Ensure tagging practices align with internal coaching and reporting processes.
Periodically review trends to ensure tagging practices remain consistent across managers.
FAQ
Do all safety events have risk tags?
No. Tags are applied only when relevant behaviors are detected or when manually added.
Do risk tags affect Safety Scores?
Risk tags provide contextual information. The primary unsafe behavior and configured detection thresholds determine Safety Score impact.
Can risk tags trigger alerts?
Alerts are triggered by event types and configured alert settings. Risk tags provide additional context but do not independently trigger alerts.
Who can edit risk tags?
Fleet Admins and Fleet Managers can add, remove, or update risk tags on events.
Why does an event show “Analysis in progress…”?
This message appears when the event video is still being analyzed. Tags will display once processing is complete.
