Fleet Admins can manage their data retention per their schedule. They can decide which data to retain and for how long.
| Note: Once a Fleet Admin decides to delete the data and choose a retention policy, the data is no longer accessible in the Fleet Dashboard. |
Overview
Motive retains your compliance, safety, and other data indefinitely by default.
However, You can customize your data retention policies for the following categories of data:
- Safety
- Compliance
- Location
- Messaging
Safety
- Dashcam videos (critical events and recall) & associated metadata
- Speeding events & history
- Safety Score history
- Coaching history
Compliance
- Driver logs: duty status changes/remarks
- DVIRs / defects
- All trips
- Log suggestions/notes by Fleet Managers
- ELD Output files
- HoS violations
- Cycle restarts
Location
- Driver/Vehicle/Asset location history
- Vehicle trip history
- Dispatch history
- Idling events
Messaging
- Message history
- Conversation history
| Note: Messages within a conversation are deleted on a rolling basis as they reach the data retention period. Entire conversations are deleted when the most recent message exceeds the data retention period. |

| Note: If you can’t edit the data retention settings in the Fleet Dashboard’s Admin settings, contact Motive Support and request it to be enabled. |
Fleet Admins can choose their retention policy for the Compliance, Safety, Messaging, Location, and Maintenance categories from the Admin settings on the Fleet Dashboard. By default, data is stored indefinitely for North American customers.
These are the available data retention periods:
