Troubleshooting guide: Environmental Sensors

This troubleshooting guide is designed to help you resolve common issues with the Environmental Sensor. It provides easy-to-follow steps for addressing problems, ensuring seamless integration with the Motive Asset Gateway.

LED light indicators

The color of the LED light on the Environmental Sensor has different meanings. Refer to the following table to understand the meaning of the LED colors and patterns:

LED Color Meaning Troubleshoot
Blinking blue  Trying to pair with an Asset Gateway.  Give the Asset Gateway up to 10 minutes to connect with the Environmental Sensor.
Solid red  Low battery.  Replace the battery of your Environmental Sensor.
Blinking red Paired Asset Gateway can not be found. This can happen when the AG mini is on battery power.  1. Ensure the paired Asset Gateway is close to the Environmental Sensor.
2. Press and hold the pinhole button for 8 seconds, then release.
3. Press the button on the Environmental Sensor to restart the device.
4. Contact Motive support or chat with us if this issue cannot be resolved, as this could be an issue with your Asset Gateway or your Environmental Sensor.
Blinking yellow Connectivity to the Asset Gateway is weak. The sensor is still paired but has a poor signal.  Try to mount the Environmental Sensor closer to the Asset Gateway.
Blinking white  The Environmental Sensor has a firmware update in progress to update your sensor to the newest firmware version. 1. Please wait until the firmware update has been completed and the LED changes back to a solid blue state
2. If the LED continues to blink white, please contact Motive support or chat with us.

Environmental Sensors are not displaying telematics data, and the LED has flashed solid blue

If the LED on the sensor has flashed solid blue, it indicates that the Environmental Sensor has connected to the Asset Gateway. However, if the Environmental Sensor has stopped displaying telematics data, follow the steps below to troubleshoot:

  1. Press and hold the pinhole button for 8 seconds, then release. This will put the device back in it's initial configuration.
  2. Press the pinhole button for 1 second, then release. This will put the device back in connection mode.

  1. The LED will start blinking blue for 20 seconds. This will reboot your sensors and maintain the connection to your asset gateway.
  2. After 10 minutes, press the button again, and if the LED shows solid blue, then the connection has been re-established.
  3. If the telematics data is still not showing up, please contact support or chat with us.

How to find the serial number on your Environmental Sensor device?

If you have not installed the Environmental Sensor, flip it over to see the serial number on the bottom label.

If you have already installed your Environmental Sensor, you can view the number on its right side.

Replacing the battery of an Environmental Sensor

Environmental Sensors come with non-rechargeable CR2477X batteries that allow for better performance in low-temperature situations and have been tested to last at least 3 years under normal usage. Hence, whenever your Environmental Sensor’s LED is solid red, you will need to replace the battery with another CR2477X battery.

  1. Flip the device over and using a T6 screwdriver, remove the screws.
  2. Gently remove the battery from the battery holder and replace it with a new battery.

Note: Please purchase a Murata CR2477X battery when replacing the battery to ensure optimal performance at low temperatures.
  3. Ensure that the waterproofing rubber seal is placed well in the top housing groove.
  4. Place the lid on the back and screw it tightly.
