Installing CableVCBL-Y-FMST

Note: Before starting the installation, ensure the following:

  • The parking brake is engaged.
  • The engine is off.
  • The main power switch (if available) is turned off.

Identify the Cable Ends

1. The VCBL-Y-FMST cable includes four labelled ends:

  • P1: Connects to the vehicle adapter.
  • P2: Connects to the vehicle’s FMS port
  • P3: Optional: To maintain the FMS port accessible for other uses. Required with Y-cable installations
  • P4: Connects to the Tachograph C port - C5 and C7

Locate the FMS Port

The FMS Port connector is typically located behind the fuse board.

  • Scania R-G-P series
    • In Scania, R-G-P series trucks, the FMS (Connector C137) connector is located underneath the fuse board and is marked green
  • Scania New R-S-G-P Series
    • In Scania, new R-S-G-P series trucks, the FMS (Connector C137) connector is located behind the fuse board (take out the air tube)
  • DAF CF - XF 105
    • The FMS and A098 connectors can be found behind a module on the left or under the fuse board.
  • Iveco Stralis II & Hi-Way
    • The connector can be found behind the radio. It is housed in one of the compartments in DIN format.
  • MAN TGX, TGS, TGM, TGL
    • For MAN vehicles, the FMS port is found in the headliner
  • Renault D
    • For Renault D vehicles, behind the radio panel, you should find the FMS connector X26.
  • RENAULT MAGNUM DXI (VF617) & E-TECH
    • The grey FMS connector can be found behind the cup holder on the right side of the driver. All connections can be made there.
  • RENAULT MIDLUM DXI / Premium DXI (VF624 / VF627 / VF629)
    • The location of the grey FMS connector depends on the cab model and the production date. 1. Behind the cover plate underneath the radio. 2. Behind the bottom part of the dashboard. To reach it, dismount the glove box.

Connect the AI Dashcam Plus

Before connecting the AI Dashcam Plus, it is recommended to take the following steps:

  1. Use a multimeter to verify that the plug has the correct point of contact.
  2. Battery LIVE Feed: A constant, fused power supply source.
  3. Ignition Live Feed: Must be a Live While Cranking (LWC) ignition source and must not be connected to a temporary or accessory system (ACC) Chassis Earth.
  4. CAN connections can be found by reaching out to your Motive Contact. Also, before completion, the camera will need to be put into CAN Listen only mode done via contacting Motive support at the time of install to get the telematics data.
  5. Plug the AI Dashcam Plus cable into the vehicle adapter.
  1. Plug the vehicle adapter into one end of the VCBL-Y-FMST cable (P1).

Connecting the cable

Connect the FMS port

Option 1: For vehicles with an FMS port installed/activated

  • Plug the male end of the Motive Cable (P2) into the vehicle’s female FMS port.

Option 2: For vehicles without an FMS port installed/activated

If the vehicle does not have an FMS port available, follow the steps below to connect using a contactless (inductive) CAN sniffer:

Access the CAN Bus

  1. Identify the correct CAN bus installation location in the vehicle (CAN 1 and/or CAN 2).
  2. Use an inductive CAN sniffer to tap into the vehicle CAN lines without hardwiring.

Install the CAN Cable Clips

  1. Remove the screws and place the CAN High (CAN_H) wire lengthwise into the slot designated for CAN High on the CAN reader.
  2. Push the wire on both ends of the CAN cable. Use the tabs to lock and hold wires in place
  3. Repeat the same steps for the CAN Low (CAN_L) wire.
  4. Assemble with screws and ensure the wires are straight and properly seated.

Connect the FMS Cable to the CAN Sniffer

  1. Cut the P2 end of the VCBL-Y-FMST cable
  2. Connect the CAN wires from the FMS cable to the contactless CAN sniffer:
    • Yellow → CAN_H (Pin 6)
    • Green → CAN_L (Pin 9)

Secure and Power the CAN Reader

  1. Secure the CAN reader wires using sponge clamps and fasten them to the mounting screws.
  2. Connect power and ground from the CAN sniffer to the FMS cable:
    • Red → Power (Pin 12) → Vehicle power source
    • Black → Ground (Pin 1) → Vehicle chassis ground
  3. Connect the power wires to the vehicle power source and connect the ground wires to the vehicle chassis ground

Verify Installation

12 .Turn the ignition ON and check the LED indicator on the back of  the CAN reader:

  • Green LED: Installation successful
  • Red LED: Installation incorrect
  • Amber LED: CAN_H and CAN_L are swapped
  • No LED: Device is not receiving power

Locate the Tachograph (Optional for now)

  1. Locate the tachograph and remove it with the help of removal pins.

Connection to Tachograph for remote download (Optional)

  1. Plug the Tacho C socket(P5)  into the CAN C socket of the tachograph for remote download
  1. CAN_H: Pin 5; CAN_L: Pin 7
  2. C7 and C8 pins should be connected together (unless there is 120 Ω resistance between C5 and C7 already)
  1. Put the tachograph back to its place after connecting the wires

Test and Mount the AI Dashcam Plus

  1. Refer to the AI Dashcam Plus Installation Guide for instructions on mounting the device to the vehicle's windshield.
  1. Start the vehicle’s engine. Once the alert/right LED turns blue, the AI Dashcam Plus is powered on and connected.
