GDPR Auto-Deletion of Unblurred Road-Facing Media

Motive automatically deletes road-facing media in 30 days for fleets operating in the UK and EU ensuring compliance with GDPR requirements.

Overview

If your fleet operates in the UK and EU, Motive automatically deletes unblurred road-facing media after 30 days to support GDPR requirements. This helps reduce retention of third-party personal data while keeping blurred footage available. Key features include:

  • Automated daily deletion: Unblurred road-facing footage is automatically deleted on day 31, with no manual action required from fleets.
  • Blurred footage protection: Deletion of unblurred road-facing footage is only triggered when a valid blurred version of the footage exists, ensuring your fleet never loses complete access to footage.
Note: Deletion of unblurred road-facing footage is only applicable to the UK and EU region.

Where media is stored

Event footage is stored in two places:

  • Camera Devices (AIDC+): Raw media is stored directly in the device. Older footage is automatically overwritten when storage is filled.
  • Motive Cloud: All customer footage accessible to Motive is stored here. Unblurred road-facing footage is deleted after 30 days to comply with GDPR. Other footage is deleted according to the customer’s retention policy

When unblurred footage is deleted

Only road-facing footage is deleted when the following conditions are fulfilled:

  • Footage of the event was created 30 days ago (footage is deleted on the 31st day)
  • Footage of the event is unblurred and road-facing

What unblurred footage is deleted

The following types of road-facing media footage are deleted to comply with GDPR requirements:

  • Safety Event Videos
  • Recalled Videos
  • Live Stream Images
  • Breadcrumb Images
Note: For recalled videos, the 30-day window starts from the recall request date, not the original recording date.

FAQs

What happens if I need unblurred road-facing footage?

If you need unblurred road-facing footage for legal purposes, contact Motive Support. Depending on availability:

  1. If the unblurred version is still available in the cloud, it can be shared directly.
  2. If it has already been deleted from the cloud but is still available on the camera device, you may be asked to recall the footage first. Once shared, that unblurred version will still be subject to the 30-day cloud retention policy.
  3. If it is no longer available in the cloud or on the device, Motive will inform you that it has been deleted under the auto-deletion policy.
