GeoJSON Custom Map Layers

Introduction

GeoJSON Custom Map Layers allows fleets to upload and manage their own spatial data in Fleet View so they can see vehicles and assets in the context of proprietary infrastructure, boundaries, and other map overlays.

What’s New?

  • Admin upload and configuration: Fleet Admins can upload GeoJSON files in Admin settings and configure a layer name, colour, opacity, and tooltip field for each layer.
  • Custom layer controls in Fleet View: Uploaded layers appear in Fleet View under a Custom section in map controls, where fleet users can toggle layers on or off and interact with map features to view details.
  • Persistent layer visibility: Layer visibility persists per user across sessions, so users do not need to re-enable the same overlays each time they return to Fleet View.
  • Supported format: The initial launch prioritises GeoJSON upload as the supported format and brings custom spatial overlays to the Fleet Dashboard experience.

How does this help our customers?

  • Off-map visibility: Gives enterprise fleets visibility into vehicles and assets in off-map environments such as private roads, utility grids, well pads, and jurisdiction boundaries.
  • Faster decisions: Reduces the need to switch between Motive and separate GIS tools, helping dispatchers and operators make decisions faster from a single source of truth.
  • Industry support: Supports Public Sector, Oil and Gas, and Utilities customers that rely on proprietary spatial data for daily operations and enterprise buying requirements.
  • Self-service management: Gives fleets a self-service way to upload and manage custom map data without requiring one-off engineering support.
