Mounts for AI Omnicam

This guide explains how to install the Motive AI Omnicam using either a magnetic mount (suited for temporary installations) or the mirror mount (for Freightliner Cascadia 2018+). Proper installation ensures optimal video quality, device stability, and long-term reliability.

AI Omnicam supports multiple mounting options so you can choose the one that fits each vehicle. This article explains what’s included in each kit, the tools you need, and step-by-step installation for both mounting methods.

Getting started (both mounts)

Before installing the Omnicam, make sure your vehicle is safely parked and the mounting area is prepared. Following these steps ensures a secure installation and reliable camera performance.

1. Park the vehicle on level ground, set the parking brake, and turn the engine off.
2. Check that the planned mount location will not block the driver’s view or interfere with airbag deployment.
3. Clean and dry the mounting surface thoroughly to ensure strong adhesion and reduce vibration.
4. Plan the cable path in advance, making sure to avoid pinch points, moving parts, and sharp edges.

Installing the magnetic mount (temporary installations)

• 1× Magnetic mount (adhesive pad pre-installed)
• 1× Alcohol cleaning wipe
• 1× Cable clip
• 1× Quick start guide

Tools you will need:

• None required (optional: plastic trim tool for cable tucking)

Installation steps:

1. Choose a location: Select a clean, flat metal surface with a clear view of the coverage area.
2. Clean the surface: Use the alcohol wipe and let it dry fully.
3. Attach the mount: Remove the adhesive liner if present, then press the mount firmly for at least 30 seconds.
4. Attach the camera: Snap the Omnicam onto the mount and adjust the angle as needed.
5. Route the cable: Use the clip to secure the cable away from controls or moving parts.

Tip: For the strongest adhesion, avoid vibration and do not reposition the mount for several hours after placement.

Installing a single arm mirror mount (Freightliner Cascadia 2018+)

• 1× Motive AI Omnicam body mount
• 1× Mirror-mount set (Cascadia 2018+ specific) 

  • Note each set includes - 1 left side and 1 right side mirror mount

• 1× Hardware kit (screws, washers)
• 1× Alcohol cleaning wipe
• 1× Cable clip
• 1× Quick start guide

Tools you will need:

• Screwdriver (Phillips or flathead, as required)
• Optional: torque wrench (follow OEM guidance)

Installation steps:

1. Prepare the mirror assembly: Locate the mirror arm on the desired side (driver or passenger) and clean the contact area.
2. Attach the bracket: Align with existing holes, install screws and washers, and tighten firmly (or to OEM torque spec).
3. Attach the camera: Lock the Omnicam into the bracket and adjust the angle.
4. Route the cable: Run the cable along the mirror arm and into the cab, securing with the clip and existing harness paths.

Tip: Protect exterior cable runs with split loom and weather-resistant ties to reduce wear.
