Understanding your asset’s historical activity is crucial for monitoring usage, ensuring security, and optimizing operations. The asset History page in the Motive Fleet Dashboard provides a unified, trip‑based view of your assets’ movements and sensor data over time, aligned with the Vehicle Gateway (VG) trip history experience for assets using Beacon, Asset Gateway (AG), and OEM data sources.

Overview
Asset History allows fleet managers to review where an asset has been, how it moved, and what condition‑related signals (such as temperature) were recorded along the way.
- Comprehensive insight: Review complete trips, stops, and sensor data for any asset in a unified view.
- Consistent trip experience: Asset History view for Beacon, AG, and OEM assets follow the same trip grouping and map behavior as vehicles History tab, reducing training time across mixed fleets.
- Ping grouping: Pings from the same location are grouped under the location entry as updates so users see all relevant movement without noisy clutter.
- Simplified multi-device workflows: When assets are part of a travel group, asset history shows vehicle and driver identifiers while clearly representing in-motion and stationary segments together so you can see how vehicles and assets traveled as a group.
Viewing asset history
- Log in to the Fleet Dashboard.
- Go to Fleet View > Live.
- Search for a specific asset or select it from the given list or map.
- Click the History tab to open History of the selected asset.
Interpreting the location timeline
Trip history location timeline shows a chronological list of the asset’s movements and stops for the selected day with the most recent location entry shown at the end of the list.
Switching between days
- To view the history of a different day, click the date dropdown and select another date.
- Click the arrows for forward and backward to go one day ahead or one day back.
Location entry details
Listed location entries display the following information:
- Timestamp: Exact time when the ping was received from the listed location
- Asset states: Location timeline shows asset location entries in stationary, moving, and idle states where:
- Gray indicates stationary state
- Green indicates in-motion state
- Orange indicates idle state
- Address: Location from where the ping was received
- Updates: If multiple pings are received from the same location, you can see them as the number of Updates and click Updates to see the complete list of pings.
- Last seen time: Timestamp of the last ping that was received from the listed location.
- Duration: Number of hours and minutes (e.g., 11h 30m) for which the selected asset remained stationary or in motion. This duration is calculated from the first ping to the last ping.
- Duration written in gray: The total hours and minutes the asset was stopped at the listed location.
- Duration written in green: The total hours and minutes the asset was in motion at the listed location.
- Distance traveled: For moving assets indicated by the green entries, the distance an asset traveled while it was in motion is shown as the number of kilometers traveled (e.g., 11km).
- Map view: Click any location entry to see it on the map for visual context.
- Expanded state: Click the arrow next to the address to see more details for a listed location.
- Travel group details: If the selected asset is part of a travel group, you can see the associated Driver name and Vehicle ID details in an expanded state.
- Origin and destination locations: For assets in motion displayed in green, expanded state reveals the origin and destination addresses of the journey along with travel group details.
- Beacon timeline: For Beacons, location entries display a tilde (~) right before the address.
- Bottom bar: At the bottom of the list, you can view the following:
- Total In Motion duration and travelled distance of the selected asset
- Total Stationary duration and number of stops of the selected asset
- Total number of Updates (i.e., received pings) for the selected asset
Using the asset history map view
The Map View visualizes the asset’s route with key details.
- Arrows and stops: Arrows’ direction indicates movement direction, while gray boxes show stop locations.
- Animated playback: Click the Play icon to animate the asset’s movement for the day with Date/Time, Location, and Speed details.
- Map layers: Toggle between views (standard, satellite, terrain) for different data insights.
- Reefer Report: Click the report icon to view the Reefer Activity report for detailed logs of reefer operation and status.

How far back can I view asset history?
You can view asset history from when the asset gateway was installed and began actively reporting.
What does a gray asset icon mean on the map?

Why don’t I see temperature data for my asset?
