Motive Driver Rewards is a Workforce Management feature that helps fleets engage, incentivize, and recognize drivers for safe driving through an automated rewards program.
Fleet managers can replace manual, ad hoc programs with custom challenges powered by Motive safety data to automatically score drivers, update leaderboards, and award badges and points based on configurable rules, reducing administrative work while improving driver retention and overall fleet safety.
| Note: The driver rewards feature is currently only available to U.S. customers who have a paid or trial Workforce Management subscription. |
Overview
Fleet managers can run custom challenges where drivers earn badges and prizes based on their performance across specified Safety metrics.
Key features include:
- Rewards tab: A centralized Rewards tab is located in the Workforce hub. From here, fleet managers can create and monitor all active, scheduled, and past challenges in one place.
- Custom challenges: Customize challenges with tailored point systems and incentives, and create unique challenges for different groups of drivers.
- Behavior-based scoring: Choose from predefined behaviors (such as hard acceleration, speeding, seatbelt use, and cell phone usage) and configure point tiers and thresholds so drivers earn points for meeting set standards.
- Targeted participation: Add specific drivers or driver groups to each challenge so you can focus programs on particular terminals, regions, or segments of your fleet.
- Rank-based rewards: Set up rank‑based rewards (for example, prizes for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place) with clear prize descriptions so drivers know exactly what they are working toward. Rewards must be fulfilled and distributed outside of the Motive platform.
- Driver App experience: Drivers can see challenges, leaderboards, badges, and score breakdowns in the Motive Driver App.

FAQs
Who can use the driver rewards feature?
The driver rewards feature is only available to U.S. customers who have a paid or trial Workforce Management subscription. This feature will be released to additional markets in the near future.
Where do I find driver rewards in the Motive Fleet Dashboard?
You can go to Workforce > Rewards in the Motive Fleet Dashboard to view and manage all challenges.
Does Motive provide the actual rewards (e.g., gift cards or bonuses)?
No. Motive only provides the platform to track performance, points, and winners, but your fleet is responsible for choosing and fulfilling the actual prizes.
Can I reward non-driver fleet users?
No, participant selection is currently limited to drivers only.
What is a challenge?
A challenge is a time‑bound program where selected drivers earn points for meeting the safety and performance thresholds you set. At the end of a challenge, drivers are ranked on a leaderboard, and top performers receive the rewards you defined.
How long can a challenge run?
Challenges can be as short as one day, but Motive recommends running them for at least one month so drivers have enough time to participate and improve.
What driver behaviors can I include in a challenge?
You can include predefined behaviors such as hard acceleration, hard braking, speeding, and cell phone or seatbelt usage, depending on your Event Intelligence settings.
How are thresholds and points for behaviors determined?
You set performance tiers (Perfect, Excellent, Good, Fair, Poor) using sliders and assign point values to each tier. Available behavior ranges are based on your Event Intelligence settings and your fleet’s current performance.
Who can I add as participants in a challenge?
You can add individual drivers or groups of drivers. Only drivers with the selected challenge behaviors enabled in their safety settings can be added as participants.
Can I edit a challenge after it has been created?
Yes. You can edit all scheduled and in-progress challenges. However, all completed and cancelled challenges cannot be edited.
How do I see which drivers are winning a challenge?
You can view the leaderboard of an in‑progress or completed challenge to see each driver’s rank, points, and score breakdowns.
What happens if drivers tie for a badge?
If drivers tie for a top award position, a tiebreaker is calculated based on the total miles driven by the drivers during the challenge period, meaning the driver with the most miles driven would win the tie.
