Asset Gateway Mini Installation Verification in the Fleet App

Introduction

Asset Gateway Mini (AG Mini) installation verification in the Motive Fleet App gives installers a guided, step‑by‑step way to install AG Mini devices correctly. By walking through device pairing, cable selection, and on‑device tests for power and GPS/LTE, fleets can be confident that each installed device is online, mounted correctly, and ready to report accurate data.

What’s New?

  • Guided AG Mini installation in Fleet App: Installers can now use the Fleet App to select an unassigned AG Mini, pair it with an asset, and follow a structured, in‑app workflow for installation instead of relying on paper instructions or manual checks.
  • Support for all installation methods: The new workflow supports both battery‑powered and cable‑powered AG Mini installs, including 3‑wire, 8‑wire, and ABS plug‑and‑play cables. When the installer selects a method in the Fleet App, and the steps automatically adjust to that choice.
  • GPS/LTE verification: Before the device is mounted, installers are prompted to place the AG Mini in the intended location, press the pinhole button, and run a test to confirm GPS and LTE signal strength (verified, weak, or failed), helping troubleshoot weak or failed signals by avoiding poor‑signal mounting locations.
  • Power verification for cable‑powered installs: For ABS, 3‑wire, and 8‑wire installs, the Fleet App guides installers to connect the AG Mini, run a power test (tethering to a vehicle and/or turning ignition on where required), and verify power before leaving the site.
  • Built‑in AUX line configuration and testing: For cable-powered installs, installers can configure AUX lines (e.g., main motor, ignition, or other voltage sources), name them, set voltage logic, and run targeted tests to confirm each line is working as expected. These settings feed into utilization and idle calculations in Equipment Monitoring.
  • Utilization and idle metrics: The new workflow introduces explicit, editable definitions for utilization (movement OR main motor OR any configured AUX activity) and splits idle time into productive vs. unproductive idling, so reporting matches how the asset is actually wired and used.

How does this help our customers?

  • Reliable deployment: Many AG Mini failures turn out to be incorrect installs (wrong power source, hidden mounting, or unverified wiring). Verifying GPS/LTE signal and power through the Fleet App helps ensure devices work as expected from day one, reducing repeat trips to the field and downtime for critical assets.
  • Simplified installation: Installers no longer need to guess which cable to use, where to mount the device, or how to confirm power and signal. The guided workflow provides a consistent, in‑app checklist that adapts to the chosen installation method, improving first‑time success rates and making installs easier to standardize across regions and vendors.
  • Enhanced trust in asset data: Because installation tests and AUX configuration are handled during setup, fleets can trust that asset location, movement, and any AUX‑driven metrics (such as engine hours or ignition monitoring) are based on a correctly wired and verified device.
  • Faster issue diagnosis and troubleshooting: When every AG Mini installation goes through the same verification steps for GPS/LTE and power, operations, and maintenance teams have a clear baseline to work from. They can more quickly understand whether a problem is likely in the field wiring, the asset itself, or something else in their environment, shortening time to resolution on their side.
