Create Collision Events from Recalled Video

Introduction

Fleets can now create a collision event directly from a recalled video when a collision is not automatically detected by Motive's collision detection system. This allows fleets to turn recalled footage into a standard collision event that follows the same workflows as automatically detected collisions, including alerts, reports, and analytics.

What's new?

Authorized users can now select Create Collision from the Requested Video details page to create a collision event from recalled footage.

When a collision event is created, Motive automatically uses available vehicle, driver, location, and speed information from the video to populate event details. The event is assigned Critical severity and appears in Safety > Events with the recalled video attached.

Motive also checks for an existing collision event before creating a new one. If a matching event is found, users can view the existing collision instead, helping prevent duplicate records.

How does this help fleets?

  • Capture missed collisions: Create collision events from recalled footage when an incident isn't automatically detected.
  • Use existing collision workflows: Manage manually created collision events through the same alerts, reports, and analytics used for automatically detected collisions.
  • Reduce manual event setup: Automatically populate available vehicle, driver, location, and speed information from the recalled video.
  • Prevent duplicate events: Built-in deduplication checks prevent duplicate collision records from being created.
  • Generate detailed reports: Create an Enhanced Collision Report using the same customizable sections available for automatically detected collisions.

How to access this feature

Go to Safety > Requests and open the requested video. Select Create Collision, select the time of impact using the video scrubber, review the event details, and confirm. The collision event then appears in Safety > Events with the recalled video attached.

Users must have the Create Collision from video permission to use this feature. This permission is not enabled by default for any role due to the sensitivity of creating collision events. It can be configured through Admin > Roles & Permissions.

Rollout plan

  • Launch date: July 28, 2026
  • Availability: All regions

Hardware supported

  • Vehicle Gateway, AI Omnicam, AI Dashcam, AI Dashcam Plus

Important notes

  • Collision events can only be created from standard Video Recall Requests. Hyperlapse video recalls are not supported.
  • The collision tag does not directly impact the Motive Safety Score. Score impact is based on unsafe driving behaviors associated with the event.
  • This feature replaces the previous "Is this a collision? Yes/No" prompt shown during video playback.
