Introduction to Logs

The Motive Driver App allows drivers to manage their hours of service (HOS) directly from their mobile device. Accurate HOS tracking is essential for safety, compliance, and smooth fleet operations.

Overview

The Motive Driver App helps drivers efficiently manage and track their HOS records, ensuring compliance and avoiding violations. With real-time clocks, automatic duty status updates, log editing, and DOT inspection readiness, the app simplifies HOS management and helps drivers stay organized.

Key features include:

  • Real-time HOS tracking: Monitor drive, shift, and cycle hours instantly, ensuring you stay within legal limits and are aware of remaining time.
  • Easy duty status changes: Update your status (e.g., driving, off duty, sleeper berth) with just a few taps, making it easy to stay compliant throughout the day.
  • Log maintenance: View, edit, and certify logs directly from your device, keeping them accurate and up-to-date for inspections and audits.
  • Inspection readiness: Easily present or transfer logs to DOT officials through the DOT Inspection Mode, ensuring a smooth and efficient inspection process.
  • Cycle tracking: Automatically track both U.S. and Canadian cycle rules, helping you manage your available hours and rest periods for each jurisdiction.

Viewing HOS clocks

You can view your clocks in Driver App > Logs. These clocks show:

  • Drive clock: Time left before a required break
  • Shift clock: On-duty hours remaining in your shift
  • Cycle clock: Hours remaining in your 7- or 8-day cycle
  • Break/rest clock: Time until or remaining for the required break

The clocks update in real time. Color-coded warnings (e.g., yellow or red) appear as you approach or exceed limits.

Managing your HOS cycle

  1. Go to the Driver App and click Logs.
  1. Review the cycle rule listed above your daily logs (for example, US 60/7-day, 70/8-day, or Canadian cycles).
  1. The app tracks your driving and on-duty hours within the active cycle.

After completing the required reset (such as a 34-hour off-duty period), your hours reset for a new cycle.

Checking the remaining time in a shift reset

1. Open the Motive Driver App.
2. Look in the bottom right corner of the screen to view the time remaining in the shift reset.
