Switching Drivers

Switching the primary driver is a key function in team driving, enabling continuous operation while maintaining hours of service (HOS) compliance. Understanding and correctly using this feature in the Motive Driver App ensures accurate log attribution and regulatory adherence.

Team driving allows two drivers to share driving duties efficiently and legally. Seamless driver switching in the Motive Driver App helps fleets maximize uptime and stay compliant.

  • Accurate HOS tracking: Ensures each driver’s duty status and hours are attributed correctly.
  • Easy role changes: Simple, app-based steps minimize confusion and errors.
  • Regulatory compliance: Proper switching keeps your logs aligned with FMCSA requirements.

Switching the Primary Driver

To change the primary driver in the Motive Driver App, follow these steps:

  1. Ensure the vehicle is stationary. Driver switching can only be initiated when the vehicle is not moving.
  2. Open the Motive Driver App.
  3. Go to Settings > Co-drivers.

  4. Next to the co-driver’s name, tap the three-dot menu (⋮), then select Make Current Driver.

  5. The app will display a confirmation screen showing that the primary driver and co-driver roles have been successfully swapped.

After switching, the new primary driver’s logs will begin, and the previous driver’s HOS will update accordingly. Always verify the switch before resuming operation.
