The Motive Driver App simplifies the Daily Vehicle Inspection Report (DVIR) process, allowing drivers to quickly complete inspections and share findings with fleet managers in real time.

Start of day safety check
Before starting your shift, the Motive Driver App will prompt you to confirm if your selected vehicle or asset is safe to operate.
If the equipment or vehicle was previously marked Unsafe, you will see a blocking alert.
You should not move unsafe equipment or vehicles. If you must proceed (e.g., for maintenance), you must explicitly select Create inspection.
Performing a daily inspection
Log in to the Driver App and click on Logs.
Select the day for which you want to create an inspection report.
- Select Inspection.
Tap the + sign on the screen.
The ADD INSPECTION prompt appears asking to choose between the inspection types.
Click Vehicle Inspection.
- For a vehicle inspection, click on Vehicle Inspection and enter the Vehicle ID.
- Fill in the General information.
Click on Parts and choose if there’s a Defect or No Defect.
- If there’s Defect, add the Defect Type as Major or Minor, add Notes, and the Photo of the defect.
- After completing the checklist (Parts), you will select Yes (Safe to drive) or No (Unsafe to drive) if enabled by your fleet.
- Tap Save and add your signature.
Daily Trailer Inspection Report
Log in to the Driver App and click on Logs.
Select the day for which you want to create an inspection report.
- Select Inspection.
Tap the + sign on the screen.
- Select Trailer Inspection from the ADD INSPECTION section.
- Enter the Trailer ID and click Next.
- Fill in the General information.
- Tap Parts and choose if there’s Defect or No Defect.
- If there’s Defect, add the Defect Type as Major or Minor, add Notes, and the Photo of the defect.
- Select whether the trailer is safe or unsafe to operate.
- Tap Save and add your signature.
FAQs
Can I edit an inspection after submitting it?
No. Once submitted, inspections cannot be changed. To correct errors, start a new inspection and notify your fleet manager.
How do I attach photos to a defect report?
Tap the camera icon while entering defect details to take a photo or upload one from your gallery.
What if I forget to sign my inspection?
You must sign the inspection electronically before you can submit it.
Are these inspections compliant with FMCSA regulations?
Yes. Inspections completed in the Motive Driver App meet FMCSA and DOT DVIR requirements.
Who can view my inspection reports?
Fleet managers and admins with the appropriate permissions can view submitted inspections in real time.
Can I complete inspections without an internet connection?
Yes. Inspections can be completed offline and will automatically sync once you're back online.
Can drivers edit inspection reports from the Driver Web Dashboard?
No, drivers cannot edit inspection reports from the Driver Web Dashboard. The inspection reports can only be edited via the Driver app for the past 14 days. Any inspection older than 14 days cannot be edited by the Motive App of the Fleet Admin Dashboard.
What happens if I mark a vehicle as 'Unsafe'?
The vehicle status is updated immediately in the Fleet Dashboard. Fleet managers receive an automated alert, and any driver who later attempts to select that vehicle will receive a warning (Blocking Alert) that the equipment is unsafe to move.
