How to Configure your Safety Score

    Introduction

Motive automatically calculates a Safety Score for each Driver. The Safety Score is configured utilizing the Motive defaults; however, you have the option to customize the Score under Safety Settings.

The Safety Score is made up of three main components:

    1. Behavior threshold definitions determine when an event is generated and thus considered in the Safety Score.
    2. Behavior weights determine the impact each behavior has on the Safety Score
    3. Performance Range definitions determine which range of scores are defined as Fair/Good/Excellent

A change to any of these three components will impact the Safety Score calculation.

Note: Modifying any of the three components away from the Motive default values may impair the accuracy of the Safety Score in identifying drivers with higher collision risk.

    Configuring behavior threshold definitions

    • Adjustments to behavior threshold definitions change the volume of events generated and considered in the Safety Score.
    • Tighter or more strict definitions result in fewer events generated.
    • Follow the steps here to adjust behavior threshold definitions
Note: Changes made to behavior threshold definitions impact future event generation and scores, there is no impact to historical events or scores.

    Steps: Configuring behavior threshold definitions

    • Follow the steps here to adjust behavior threshold definitions.

    Configuring behavior weights

    • Adjustments to behavior weights will change the impact a behavior has on the Safety Score
    • Higher weighted behaviors have more impact on the Safety Score
    • Changes to behavior weights will go into effect the following Monday
    • Follow the steps here to adjust behavior weights on the Safety Score
Note: Changes to behavior weights will apply to future and historical scores (up to 1 year back).
