Installation

The Motive Engine Immobilizer enhances Fleet security with seamless control and efficiency. Fleet Managers and Fleet Admins can now manage the immobilization system, effectively deterring theft attempts.

Overview

The Engine Immobilizer works with the Motive platform to protect vehicles from theft or unauthorized operation. With proper setup, fleets benefit from:

  • Improved security: The immobilizer prevents unauthorized access and theft. This ensures that only approved drivers can start the vehicle.
  • Easy integration: It is compatible with the Motive Vehicle Gateway and other supported devices. This makes it simple to add into existing fleet systems.
  • User-friendly installation: Clear, step-by-step instructions make installation straightforward. This allows fleets to get the system running with minimal downtime.

Fleet management integration: Once installed, devices can be assigned and monitored directly in the Motive Dashboard. This gives managers full visibility and control.

Identifying vehicle starter line

Before installing the Motive Engine Immobilizer, remove any existing third-party relays controlling the starter line, fuel pump, or acceleration.

  1. Find the starter line in your vehicle. Look near the starter solenoid in the steering column or other parts of the vehicle.
Note: Do not install on ignition line as this can lead to abrupt vehicle stops

Confirming starter line voltage

  1. Use a multimeter to measure voltage from the starter line.
  2. Check the voltage when the ignition is off, in accessory mode, and on. It should be 0V.
  3. When you turn the key to start the engine, the voltage should read 12 or 24V, depending on your vehicle type.

  1. Connect the relay socket to the appropriate wires:
  • Black (86 Relay pin) to the 12/24V source.
  • Blue (30 Relay pin) to the starter line from the ignition switch.
  • Yellow (87 Relay Pin) remains unused.
  • Red (87a Relay pin) to the line going to the starter motor.
  • White (85 Relay pin) to the "Green" wire of the Engine Immobilizer external harness.

Mounting the engine immobilizer

  1. Peel off the adhesive backing from the Engine Immobilizer.
  2. Mount the Engine Immobilizer in the desired location.
Note: Ensure the relay is mounted in a hidden and secure location.
  1. Mount the relay on a rigid surface to reduce vibration.
Note: Avoid disassembling the device. Keep it away from high temperatures, humidity, and direct sunlight to prevent damage. Don’t use the device on airplanes or near medical equipment.
