If my fleet only operates box trucks and no trailers, do I need to use the Assets section in Motive?
No. If you only operate box/straight trucks and aren’t tracking separate trailers or non-powered equipment, you can ignore the Assets section and manage everything under Vehicles:
- Set up each box truck as a vehicle in the Fleet Dashboard and, if applicable, assign a Vehicle Gateway for ELD, GPS, and Dashcam.
- Drivers will simply select their vehicle in the Driver App. They do not need to select or manage any Assets.
- The Assets section is only needed when you want to track things like trailers, containers, or other non-powered equipment separately (often with an Asset Gateway).
