Installing Cable VCBL-D- VOLMC
|
Note: Before starting the installation, ensure the following:
|
Identify the cable ends
1. The VCBL-Y-MACK cable includes four labeled ends:
- P1: Connects to the vehicle adapter
- P2: Ring terminals that connect to the vehicle’s power and ground
- P3: The female end of the cable that is connected to the terminating resistor
- P4: The male end of the cable that connects to the J1939 bus connector in the vehicle
Remove the panels and connect the cables
-
Removing panels
- Remove the access panel located on the top center of the dashboard on the right side of the steering wheel. Some vehicles may require a screwdriver.
-
Removing the terminating resistor
- Detach the terminating resistor from the J1939 bus connector. The J1939 bus connector can generally be found by following the pair of twisted green and yellow wires in the access panel. Don’t discard this resistor.
-
Connecting the cables
- Attach the male end of the Motive cable (P4) to the female end of the truck’s J1939 bus connector (where the terminating resistor was previously attached).
-
Completing the connection
- Attach the terminating resistor to the female end of the Motive cable (P3) to close the circuit.
-
Connecting to power
- Several power/ground studs stick out of the truck inside the access panel. The Motive cable ring terminals fit over two of the studs, which should be labeled or color-coded
- The red ring terminal (P2) should be attached to the ‘Power’ stud, and the black ring terminal (P2) should be attached to the ‘Ground’ stud. The ‘Power’ stud may also be labeled ‘Battery’ or ‘Battery Fuse’. Do not attach the red ring terminal to the stud labeled ‘Ignition’.
- Secure the wiring with cable ties, then reattach the panels.
|
Note: Depending on the vehicle, the panels may need to be modified to run the cable to the top of the dashboard. If the panels cannot be modified, then mount the vehicle adapter inside the panel. When mounted inside the panel, ensure the cable is not pinched, as this will damage the cable. |
Connect the AI Dashcam Plus
- Plug the AI Dashcam Plus cable into the vehicle adapter.
- Plug the vehicle adapter into one end of the Y cable (P1).
Test and mount the AI Dashcam Plus
- Refer to the AI Dashcam Plus Installation Guide for instructions on testing and mounting the device to the vehicle's windshield or the left side of the rearview mirror. Once mounted, the final installation should resemble the example shown in the original guide.
- Start the vehicle’s engine. Once the alert/right LED turns blue, the AI Dashcam Plus is powered on and connected.
