Installing Cable VCBL-D- VOLMC
|
Note: Before starting the installation, ensure the following:
|
Identify the cable ends
1. The VCBL-Y-VOLMC cable includes five labelled ends:
- P1: Connects to the vehicle adapter.
- P2: Connects to the vehicle’s power and ground for Volvo/Mack 2019+ vehicles.
- P3: Connects to the vehicle’s power and ground for Volvo 2013-2018 vehicles.
- P4: The female end of the cable that is connected to the terminating resistor.
- P5: The male end of the cable that connects to the J1939 bus connector in the vehicle.
Remove the panels and connect the cables
-
Removing panels
- For Volvo/Mack 2019+ vehicles, remove the fuse panel on the dashboard's center-right side, near the steering wheel. For vehicles with an RP1226 connector, use cable VCBL-Y-1226.
- For Volvo 2013-2018 vehicles, remove the access panel located at the top center of the dashboard on the right side of the steering wheel
-
Identifying the connector
- For Volvo/Mack 2019+ vehicles, there are two identical J1939 connectors (DL1 and DL3) in the center console. Identify and connect to the J1939 connector labeled DL1J1939, avoiding DL3J1939.
-
Removing the terminating resistor
- Detach the terminating resistor from the J1939 bus connector and don’t discard it. The J1939 bus connector can be located by following the pair of twisted green and yellow wires in the fuse panel.
-
Connecting the cables
- Attach the male end of the Motive cable (P5) to the truck’s J1939 bus connector, where the terminating resistor was previously attached
- Attach the male end of the Motive cable (P5) to the truck’s J1939 bus connector, where the terminating resistor was previously attached
-
Completing the connection
- Attach the terminating resistor to the female end of the Motive cable (P4) to close the circuit.
| Note: Ensure the terminating resistor is reattached correctly, as improper installation may lead to truck malfunctions. |
-
Routing to the power source
- Feed the power cable down towards the Front Dashboard panel
- Next, remove the Front Dashboard panel to access the open battery connector. Begin by prying off the trim, removing the screws, and then popping off the top and bottom panels
-
Connecting to power
- For Volvo/Mack 2019+ vehicles, plug the power connector from the Motive cable (P2) into an open battery connector in the access panel. There are six identical connectors. Plug the Motive cable into one of the two connectors labeled F87. Make sure the P3 end of the cable is closed with the cover cap to prevent shorting.
- For Volvo 2013-2018 vehicles, pull through the Motive power cable end (P3) and plug it into this battery power connector. Make sure the red wire goes to power, and the black wire goes to ground. The power connector has a keyed structure so that it can only fit one way. If you have trouble plugging it in, try rotating the power connector. Make sure the P2 end of the cable is closed with the cover cap to prevent shorting.
Connect the AI Dashcam Plus
- Plug the AI Dashcam Plus cable into the vehicle adapter.
- Plug the vehicle adapter into one end of the Y cable (P1).
Test and mount the AI Dashcam Plus
- Refer to the AI Dashcam Plus Installation Guide for instructions on testing and mounting the device to the vehicle's windshield or the left side of the rearview mirror. Once mounted, the final installation should resemble the example shown in the original guide.
- Start the vehicle’s engine. Once the alert/right LED turns blue, the AI Dashcam Plus is powered on and connected.
