Group Level Safety Settings on Fleet Dashboard

Group Level Settings in Motive allow Fleet Admins to configure and apply Safety settings such as unsafe behaviors, dashcam configurations, and driver privacy settings at a group level within their organization. These settings ensure that fleet-wide policies can be enforced efficiently while also allowing flexibility for specific groups of vehicles.

Different Levels at which Safety Settings can now be applied

By using Group Level Safety Settings, Fleet Admins can streamline operations by defining configurations at the Organization, Group, or Vehicle level, bringing more flexibility into how these are managed.

 

 

1. For Specific Vehicle(s)

Individual vehicle profiles can be created and maintained to apply settings associated with Safety. For example, Fleet Admins can edit a vehicle’s admin profile to enable or disable Hard Acceleration and determine if that behavior triggers Safety Events and plays In-Cab Audio Alerts when a driver accelerates harshly.

2. For Specific Group(s)

Fleet Admins can specify configurations for entire Groups through Motive’s Group Level Settings feature.

This eliminates the need for manually adjusting settings for each vehicle, instead tying them to Groups. Any vehicles that join the Group automatically adopt the applied settings.

To configure settings for a Group:

1. Create a Profile and associate it with specific Groups.
2. From the Motive Dashboard, go to Admin > Safety to open the safety settings interface.
3. Once in safety settings, you can edit the desired configurations for the selected behavior.

This ensures that any new vehicles added to the Group inherit the settings specified at the Group level automatically.  

3. For the Entire Organization

Fleet Admins can create organization-wide presets for Safety settings on the Motive Admin Dashboard (Admin > Safety). Any new vehicles added to the organization will automatically adopt these company-wide settings unless a different configuration is applied at the Group or Vehicle level.

Overrides on the Motive Admin Dashboard

Overrides allow Fleet Admins to set different configurations for specific Vehicles or Groups, even when a default setting is applied at the Organization level. This flexibility ensures that unique operational requirements can be met while still maintaining overall fleet-wide policies.

For example:

• A company-wide policy may detect all instances of Cell Phone Usage and generate reports for all divisions.
• A division’s Safety Head may decide to add an In-Cab Alert for drivers in that division while keeping the company-wide detection settings.
• A Safety Administrator for a specific region may choose to lower the alert threshold for a few high-risk vehicles.

Overrides allow different settings for the same behavior at the Vehicle, Group, and Organization levels.

What are Overrides?

An override occurs when a setting at a lower level (Vehicle or Group) differs from its default setting at a higher level (Group or Organization).

Vehicle Overrides

A Vehicle Override happens when a vehicle’s setting is different from its Group’s or Organization’s setting. This override can be applied by modifying the vehicle’s admin profile and is indicated with a blue underline on the vehicle’s profile page.

Example:
If an Organization requires a Hard Acceleration event detected above 9.7 mph/s, but a specific vehicle needs it at 11 mph/s, an override can be applied at the vehicle level.

Group Overrides

A Group Override occurs when a Group’s setting differs from the Organization’s setting. It is indicated with an orange underline on the dashboard.

To apply a Group override:

1. Create a Profile for the Group.
2. Assign all vehicles in the Group to the Profile.
3. Configure the desired Safety settings for that Profile.

Example:
A mining division may require a stricter Speeding Alert threshold than the rest of the fleet. Instead of adjusting each vehicle manually, a Group override can be applied to all mining vehicles.
