Introduction
The FMS and Tacho CAN-C Splitter Cable (VCBL-Y-FMST) gives heavy-duty fleets in the UK and Europe a single cable to install the Motive AI Dashcam Plus on vehicles fitted with a digital tachograph. It draws power and telematics from the vehicle's FMS port and reads Remote Tachograph Download (RTD) data from the tachograph's rear C port.
| Note: At launch, the VCBL-Y-FMST cable is available for supported UK and European vehicles using AI Dashcam Plus. Supported tachographs are VDO and Stoneridge digital units, generations 1.0, 2.0, and 2.2. Availability and installation requirements may vary by vehicle compatibility, tachograph configuration, inventory, and the approved cable recommendation. For full details, see the VCBL-Y-FMST installation guide. |
What’s New?
-
Six cable ends: The FMS and Tacho CAN-C Splitter Cable (VCBL-Y-FMST) has six labelled ends that cover every connection in a single harness:
- P1: Connects to the Motive vehicle adapter (VIA unit).
- P2: Connects to the vehicle's FMS port.
- P3 (optional): Connects to the CAN sniffer accessory.
- P4 (optional): The Tacho CY-splitter accepts an existing factory-fitted cable or third-party device.
- P5: Connects to the tachograph's C port (pins C5 and C7), with a loop between C7 and C8.
- P6 (optional): Required to connect to hardwired ports (power, ground, and ignition) if the CAN sniffer is used for telematics.
- Tacho CAN-C Y-splitter: When the tachograph's C port is already populated, installers move the existing harness to P4 and plug P5 into the C port. The AI Dashcam Plus receives Remote Tachograph Download (RTD) data while the original device stays connected
- Vehicle-specific compatibility: The appropriate connection path depends on the vehicle's make, model, year, available ports, tachograph configuration, and validated installation path. The installation guide includes FMS port locations for common Scania, DAF, Iveco, MAN, and Renault models.
How does this help our customers?
- Broader vehicle coverage: Fleets and installers in the UK and Europe can connect AI Dashcam Plus across more supported heavy-duty vehicles, including those with no active FMS port.
- Reliable remote tachograph downloads: Verified CAN termination reduces signal reflection and download failures, so fleets can retrieve driver card and vehicle unit files remotely instead of visiting each vehicle with a download key.
- Support for fleet workflows: The cable provides access to vehicle telematics and RTD workflows through the appropriate FMS or CAN-C connection; feature enablement and company card setup are completed in the Motive Fleet Dashboard.
