Introduction
Motive uses multiple methods to identify Drivers and suggests or assigns trips to them. We will be covering manual Driver identification methods and AI-based Driver identification methods in this article.
How Driver Identification Methods Help You
Driver identification methods help you identify Drivers and assign trips to them.
Driver Identification Methods Overview
Manual Driver Identification Methods
Vehicle Selection by Driver
Drivers can select a vehicle in the Driver App and connect to the Vehicle Gateway via Bluetooth or USB cable connection. All trip data is automatically associated with the connected Driver. Here is a detailed article on how to connect to the Vehicle Gateway via Bluetooth or USB cable connection.
This method is recommended for Drivers who are subject to ELD regulations and are required to connect to the Vehicle Gateway before driving.
Permanent Driver assignment by Fleet Admin
Fleet Admins can permanently assign a Driver to a Vehicle. All trips for that Vehicle will automatically be assigned to the Driver. Here is a detailed article on how to assign a driver to a vehicle.
This method can only be used for Drivers who are not subject to ELD regulation. Drivers who are subject to ELD regulation must select a vehicle in the Driver App and connect to the Vehicle Gateway before driving.
Trip Assignment by Fleet User
For Drivers who forget to select a vehicle in the Driver App, or do not use the Driver App, Fleet Users can manually assign an unidentified trip to the Driver. If the Driver is operating in ELD mode, they need to approve the edit to their log. Follow these steps to assign an unidentified trip to a driver.
Trip-claiming Driver
Drivers, who forgot or are unable to connect to the Vehicle Gateway, see trips recorded in an unidentified state upon reconnecting to the same Vehicle next time. They can claim or reject these unidentified trips using the Driver App. Here is how you can accept or reject an unidentified trip as a driver.
AI-based Driver Identification Methods
Driver App Data
If a Driver forgets to select a Vehicle in the Driver App before driving, Motive can automatically identify and assign trips to the correct Driver using AI that analyzes historical data, including previous Vehicle and Driver mobile location data, inspection reports, previously assigned Drivers, and last known Drivers.
This method is most effective for those who regularly use the Motive Driver App.
Face Match (Facial Recognition)
Motive can automatically identify and assign trips to the correct Driver using AI-based facial recognition. Fleet Admins can create facial profiles of their drivers to enable Face Match.
This method requires a dual-facing AI Dashcam.
