How to Connect the OBD2 Shunt Device with the Vehicle Gateway

    Introduction

    Motive helps drivers connect OBD2 shunt devices to ensure a stable power supply to your Vehicle Gateway.

    Note: Before proceeding, ensure the engine diagnostic port's PIN configuration matches the Vehicle Gateway's requirements.

     

    Steps: Connecting the OBD2 Shunt Device with the Vehicle Gateway

     

     Verify Power Connections

    1. Confirm that the engine’s diagnostic port has power.
    2. Check if GND is on PIN 4 of the port. 
    3. If GND is on PIN 5, install the OBD2 shunt device.

    1. Verify that PIN 16 is PWR. If you get 12 volts on PIN 4 and 16, the OBD2 shunt device is required.

     Install the OBD2 Shunt Device

    1. Once the power connections are verified, remove the tab from the OBD2 shunt device.

    2. Insert the OBD2 shunt applicator into the OBD2 cable.

    3. Remove the applicator unit. The OBD2 shunt device now connects PIN 4 and PIN 5.

    4. Discard the applicator unit.

     Connect and Test the Gateway

    1. Connect the Motive Vehicle Gateway to the vehicle’s diagnostic port using the cable with the installed OBD2 shunt device.

    2. Verify the device's functionality using the Motive Fleet App device installation flow.
