Share Live Location

Fleet Managers can share the live location of their vehicles, Drivers, or assets with external third parties. This ensures better transparency between the engaged stakeholders.

  4. The Share Location dialog box displays your selected vehicle or asset. You can select an expiration date and time and add notes to the link.

Note: The Share location only works for the cellular VGs. VGs with no cell do not have this option currently even when the driver is connected to the VG.

FAQs

Why am I unable to share live location?

Fleet Admins and Fleet Managers can share the live location of their vehicles, drivers, or assets with external third parties. If the live share option is greyed out, the Vehicle Gateway may be a non-cellular one. Live location can only be shared when the vehicle gateway is cellular.

My driver does not have cell phone data. Does the Vehicle Gateway have a phone number for tracking, or how can I let a shipper track the truck?

Motive Vehicle Gateways do not have a phone number for tracking. The Vehicle Gateway has its own built-in cellular and GPS, so you can still track the truck from the Fleet Dashboard and share a live tracking link. From Fleet View, select the vehicle, click Share Location, set an expiration, and send the link to the shipper. The shipper can view near real-time location updates in a browser without a Motive account, and the driver’s phone does not need data for tracking to work.
