Live Streaming allows fleet managers to view real-time video from AI Dashcams directly in the Fleet Dashboard. This helps monitor driver behavior, respond to incidents as they happen, and improve fleet safety and security.
Overview
Motive’s live streaming feature provides instant visibility into vehicles using AI Dashcams.
Key capabilities include:
- Real-time visibility: View road-facing or driver-facing camera feeds instantly
- Faster incident response: Check on events or emergencies as they happen
- Improved safety oversight: Monitor risky behavior and take immediate action
- Controlled access: Permissions ensure only authorized users can initiate streams
How Live Streaming works
Live streaming provides temporary, real-time access to dashcam footage.
- Streams are not recorded or stored automatically
- Only safety events and recalled videos are saved in the system
- Drivers receive in-cab audio and visual alerts when streaming starts and ends (cannot be disabled)
- Streaming quality depends on cellular connectivity
Prerequisites for Live Streaming
To start a live stream:
- The vehicle must have an AI Dashcam installed
- The vehicle must be powered on
- The vehicle must be in the range of a working cellular signal. The streaming video quality is dependent on the cell signal.
- Live streaming must be enabled for the vehicle
- The Vehicle Gateway has not exceeded the monthly data limit.
- The user must have live streaming permissions

FAQ
Who can start a live stream?
Only users with live streaming permissions can initiate a stream.
Are drivers notified during live streaming?
Yes. Drivers receive in-cab audio and visual alerts, and this cannot be turned off.
Is live streaming footage saved automatically?
No. Live streams are not stored. Only safety events and recalled videos are saved.
Why can’t I start a live stream?
Check that:
- The vehicle is on
- Connectivity is available
- Live streaming is enabled
- You have the correct permissions
How much live streaming is included?
Each dashcam includes 10 minutes per month, with optional paid upgrades for additional usage.
Why does my dashcam show No live feed when I try to watch live video?
No live feed means Motive can’t start a live stream from the camera right now. This is almost always due to one of these conditions:
-
Camera is offline or disconnected
- If the dashcam or Vehicle Gateway is powered off, has no LTE, or is otherwise disconnected, live streaming is not possible.
- In the Fleet Dashboard, check the camera and vehicle status (Disconnected / No Signal / No LTE). If it is offline, follow the standard dashcam connectivity troubleshooting steps.
-
Live Streaming is not enabled for that vehicle or account
- Live streaming must be enabled in your Safety settings. Check if it is limited to certain plans or devices.
- If Live Streaming is not enabled fleet-wide or for that specific camera, attempts to view live video will show No live feed.
- Admins can enable it from the Fleet Dashboard using the live-streaming safety settings or the bulk enable tool.
-
Privacy or camera control is blocking live video
- Features like Driver Privacy Mode or Camera Control (full camera off or off while idling) can prevent live video from being available, even if the camera is powered.
- If privacy is configured to block driver-facing or all cameras in certain conditions, you may see No live feed when those conditions are active.
If the camera shows as online, Live Streaming is enabled, and privacy settings allow it, but you still see No live feed, your admin should Contact Motive Support with:
- Company name and vehicle ID
- Dashcam/Vehicle Gateway status and LED behavior
- Approximate time and URL of the live-view attempt
Support will check the backend streaming status and any live-stream minute or configuration limits on the account.
