Vehicle Gateway settings in the Motive Dashboard provide centralized controls for managing connectivity, alerts, and installation documentation. Proper configuration helps fleets stay connected, secure, and compliant.

Vehicle Gateway settings allow fleet managers and admins to easily configure essential features from one central location. These controls streamline device management, support compliance, and enable proactive fleet operations.

Viewing settings
- In the Fleet Dashboard, go to Admin and click Vehicles.
- Select a Vehicle and scroll down to Devices.
- Click Edit in the Vehicle Gateway Section.
- Configure WiFi network name, WiFi password, Threshold to throttle Wifi hotspot to configure the WiFi.
- Add documentation in Installation Details and Notes.
- If you don’t see these options, check your user role or permissions.

Changing settings
Alerts:
- Enable or disable disconnect alerts.
- Choose how alerts are delivered (email, SMS, or mobile app).
- Set up escalation paths for urgent notifications.
- Assign alerts to specific teams or users.
Wi-Fi hotspot settings:
- Set data thresholds for the organization or individual vehicles.
- Adjust hotspot controls to manage data usage and cost.
Installation documentation:
- Upload installation photos.
- Add field notes for each vehicle.
- Maintain records to support troubleshooting and audits.
All changes save automatically and are recorded in the audit history.
Managing access and permissions
Only users with the correct role and permission level can configure Vehicle Gateway settings.
To adjust access:
- In the Fleet Dashboard, go to Admin > Fleet Users > Roles & Permissions.
- Click Options for the desired Fleet User.
- Scroll to Admin to grant or restrict access to Vehicle Gateway settings.
- All updates are tracked in audit logs to support accountability and compliance.
Viewing disconnected Vehicle Gateway(s)
The real-time Vehicle Gateway disconnect feature allows you to view and add notes to disconnected Vehicle Gateways in your Fleet Dashboard. You can also set up email alerts that instantly notify you when the Vehicle Gateway gets disconnected, empowering you to help drivers reconnect, stay compliant, and prevent issues. Here is how to view the disconnected Vehicle Gateways in the Fleet Dashboard.
| Note: The feature is only available to certain users and Drivers using Vehicle Gateway Model LBB 3.6 and above. The existing disconnect functionality for older Vehicle Gateway models remains unchanged. |
- Log in to the Fleet Dashboard and click Compliance.
- Click Disconnects.
- In the Status column, you can view the current status of each disconnected Vehicle Gateway.
- Resolved status means the Vehicle Gateway is reconnected.
- Unresolved status means the Vehicle Gateway has not yet been reconnected. This unresolved status is only available for Vehicle Gateways LBB 3.6 on the latest firmware.
Finding the make, model, and build date for the Vehicle Gateway
Here is how you can find the Make, Model, and Build Date for your Vehicle Gateway.
- The manufacturer of all of Vehicle Gateways/ELDs is Flex LTD.
- The Model of the Vehicle Gateway is mentioned at the bottom side, under the serial number.

Reactivating an ELD/Vehicle Gateway
Fleet Admins can reactivate an ELD/Vehicle Gateway when needed. However, the steps to reactivate a Vehicle Gateway with a canceled subscription are different from those deactivated by the Fleet Admin. Once reactivated, you can have your Vehicle Gateway enabled and assigned.
Reactivating an unassigned Vehicle Gateway

Reactivating a Vehicle Gateway with a canceled subscription
- If your Vehicle Gateway subscription has been canceled for more than 90 days, contact your Account Executive. Share the necessary details, and they will do the needful.
- If the subscription has been canceled for less than 90 days, please reach out to the Account Executive assigned to you to connect with the Customer Success team.
Performing pinhole/hard reset on Vehicle Gateway (lbb 3.6)
A Vehicle Gateway may need a pinhole/hard reset if the GPS light remains red, logs do not pick up location, Drivers are unable to connect to the Vehicle Gateway, or location history is not visible on the web dashboard. To perform a pinhole/hard reset on the Vehicle Gateway, take the following steps:
- Find the pinhole present at the left-hand side of the USB port.
- Press the pinhole for 10 seconds with the help of a paperclip or a similar tool.
- The LEDs should start blinking green and blue for 30 seconds.
- Both LEDs will blink yellow for 4 to 5 seconds and then blink white for a few seconds.
- Once the bootup is completed, both the LEDs will blink green or red.
- Vehicle Gateway will be reset.

How to Get Wi-Fi Password for the Vehicle Gateway Hotspot
- Drivers are prompted to enter the Wi-Fi password when they try to connect to the Vehicle Gateway Wi-Fi through their iOS or Android device.
- You will need to retrieve the password from your Fleet Manager by sending them a message.
- Your Fleet Manager can retrieve and share the Wi-Fi password.
- Support will not be able to provide the Wi-Fi password.
