AI Dashcam Plus VCBL-D-HW3W 3‑wire Hardwired Power Cable

Introduction

The AI Dashcam Plus VCBL‑D‑HW3W 3‑wire Hardwired Power Cable is a new power‑only cable for AI Dashcam Plus, providing a direct‑to‑battery connection via Vehicle Adapter. This cable enables fleets to use it on vehicles that do not have a standard diagnostics port by extending the AI Dashcam Plus cable lineup to hardwired installs across mixed fleets and speciality equipment.

What’s New?

  • Dedicated 3‑wire power‑only cable for AI Dashcam Plus+: New VCBL-D-HW3W cable that supports a direct hardwired power connection to Motive’s AI Dashcam Plus. This cable is designed for vehicles and equipment that do not have a supported diagnostics port (OBD‑II/J1708/J1939), such as construction equipment/yellow iron, golf carts, small utility vehicles, and some speciality EVs.
  • Industry-standard 3-wire harness design: Uses a familiar 3-wire pattern with:
    • Red for power/battery (8–32 V)
    • Yellow for ignition sense (10–32 V)
    • Black for ground
    • An inline 5 A fuse on the power lead to protect both the device and vehicle electrical systems.
  • Vehicle Adapter compatible connector: The cable terminates in a 24‑pin connector on the Vehicle Adapter side, designed to lock securely and tolerate vibration and movement.
  • Power-only cable: This cable does not carry engine diagnostics or fault codes and is not sufficient for ELD mandate compliance.
Note: When using this hardwired cable, Zero Telematics Mode must be enabled via Motive Support. This ensures the device can correctly detect motion and engine status.

How does this help our customers?

  • Unlocks stranded assets: Lets fleets bring construction equipment, older vehicles, golf carts or buggies, small utility vehicles, and some EVs online even when there is no diagnostic port, so critical assets are no longer invisible to operations and safety teams.
  • Reduces installer friction and rework: Uses a familiar 3-wire fused hardwire design that matches what installers are already used to, lowering training overhead, cutting installation errors, and speeding up deployment.
  • Prevents unplugging and tampering issues: Hardwired, behind-dash power with fused protection, bend-tolerant harness helps avoid loose plugs, exposed cables, and accidental or intentional disconnects that can disrupt tracking and safety coverage.
