Driver Logs

Electronic logs help record Hours of Service (HOS) data and ensure regulatory compliance. The Motive Driver App allows drivers to manage their logs efficiently for accurate record-keeping and smooth fleet operations.

Overview

The Motive Driver App makes it easy to view, edit, certify, and share your HOS logs. With its intuitive interface, you can manage your logs efficiently, stay compliant, and streamline the inspection process. Key features include:

  • Automatic record-keeping: The app automatically tracks your driving time, reducing the chances of manual errors and ensuring accurate log entries.
  • Easy access and editing: Review and update your logs directly within the app, making it simple to correct any mistakes and keep your records up-to-date.
  • Compliance support: The app helps you meet both federal and regional HOS regulations, keeping you compliant across different jurisdictions.
  • Quick data sharing: Easily send your logs for roadside inspections or audits, ensuring a smooth and fast process during compliance checks.

Basics

Electronic logs (e-logs) are digital records of your HOS activity. They replace paper logs and serve as your official logbook. The Motive Driver App:

  • Automatically records driving time.
  • Allows manual entry for other duty statuses.
  • Helps ensure logs are complete and accurate.

Accurate logs support fleet compliance and help prevent violations.

  1. Go to the Motive Driver App.
  2. Tap Logs from the home screen or the main menu.
  1. Tap the log for Today to view your log for the current day.
Note: Before viewing the current date's log, you have to sign and certify all previous logs.
  1. Select any date from the Last 14 Days section to view old logs.
Note: You can view logs older than the last 14 days on the Motive Fleet Dashboard. Contact your fleet manager for access to older logs.

Editing and annotating logs

  3. Tap Save to confirm the log changes.

Keeping accurate logs helps prevent violations and ensures compliance during inspections.

Note: Select an appropriate duty status before driving in Unregulated mode and annotate your logs as Unregulated driving. This will give additional context to DOT officers during roadside inspections.

Automatically recorded and ignored drive time

  • Automatically recorded drive time: The app sets your status to driving when the vehicle moves. This time is locked and cannot be edited.
  • Ignored drive time: When the vehicle moves while you are not logged into the app, the recorded drive time can be ignored. These entries are flagged and appear in your logs.

Review the ignored drive time with your fleet manager to resolve discrepancies.

Motive users can not edit automatically recorded drive time to a Special Duty Status (SDS), such as Personal Conveyance (PC) and/or Yard Move (YM) in accordance with FMCSA regulations.

  • However, Drivers can add annotations directly to their automatically recorded trips within the Motive Driver App to label these events.
  • Law enforcement officials can view these annotations during roadside inspections.
  • Automatically recorded driving time is recorded using the Motive Vehicle Gateway.

To add an annotation to a log, follow these steps
