    Overview

When crossing the border between the U.S. and Canada, the Motive Driver App helps ensure compliance with the respective country’s Hours of Service (HOS) rules. However, certain conditions must be met for the automatic switch between U.S. and Canadian regulations.

    Automatic Switching Requirements:

    • App Update: Ensure the Driver App is up-to-date to support the automatic switch.
    • Cycle Setup: If the driver has configured a primary cycle for the U.S. and a secondary cycle for Canada (or vice versa), the app can automatically switch to the appropriate cycle upon detecting a border crossing.
    • Driver Connection: The driver must be connected to the app while crossing the border.
    • Vehicle Movement: The vehicle speed must exceed 5 mph to detect driving and enable border crossing detection.
    • Complete Trip: The switch occurs after completing a trip from the start of one jurisdiction (U.S. or Canada) to the endpoint in the other jurisdiction.
    • GPS Functionality: The ELD's GPS must be active and tracking while crossing the border to enable automatic detection of the jurisdiction change.

    Note:

    • The driver's cycle will only be switched after the device detects a border crossing movement and once the vehicle has stopped across the border.
    • After detecting a border crossing, the app will prompt you to confirm the switch to complete the process.

    Manual Cycle Switch Option:

The Driver App allows the driver to manually switch between the primary and secondary cycles for both the current day and the last 14 days' logs.
