Why Is the Business Owner’s Social Security Number Required for a Motive Card Application?

Answer

Motive requires the business owner's Social Security Number (SSN) to comply with banking regulations and verify authorization.

  • The SSN is used only for a Know Your Customer (KYC) check, as required by U.S. banking regulations to prevent fraud and money laundering.
  • Motive does not use the SSN to obtain a consumer credit report on the business owner.
  • Business credit reports are obtained using the company’s EIN/Tax ID and other relevant details.
  • If issued a Motive Card, the company’s credit activity will be reported to business credit bureaus—but this will not involve the owner's SSN.
