The Ignore Drive Time feature enables Fleet Admins to ignore an incorrectly recorded driving event and help drivers recalculate their accurate remaining HOS in the Driver App. This feature gives fleet users the ability to ignore an ELD-recorded drive time to get rid of violations internally. No changes are made to the driver’s ELD outputs (log PDF/output file), to help fleets stay in compliance.
| Note: In accordance with ELD regulations, once the driving time is automatically recorded to a driver’s logs, that event will remain on the driveline and cannot be edited. Check out our guide on how to navigate FMCSA's rules on reclassifying drive time. |
Ignoring Incorrectly Recorded Drive Time using Fleet Dashboard
Follow these steps to ignore an incorrectly recorded drive time using the Motive Dashboard:
1. Once you have access to Ignore Drive Time, log in to the Fleet Dashboard.
2. Click Compliance in the left-hand side menu.
3. Click Logs.
4. Select the incorrectly recorded driving event.
5. Click Edit Log (Driver must sign logs for that day to edit logs).
6. On the next page, click Edit for the drive time you want to ignore.
7. Check the check box to select Ignore incorrectly recorded drive time.
8. Select an appropriate duty status, Off-Duty (PC), On-Duty (YM,) or Waiting Time (WT) to recalculate the driver’s HOS Clocks.
9. Click Confirm.
10. An automatic internal note now displays on the logs detail page under the ignored driving duty status, and the driver receives a notification in the Driver App to view the log with ignored drive time.
Once you ignore the drive time, that driving event will be excluded from the hours of service. The driving event will still show up on the Driver's log; however, it will be considered Off-duty instead.

Note: The internal note is only visible within Motive Platforms (Fleet Dashboard, Driver Application) for tracking purposes and is not visible on the driver’s ELD Outputs. |

FAQs
How can I delete a driving event from my log that was incorrectly recorded as driving instead of personal conveyance?
Because of ELD regulations, you cannot delete or reclassify automatically recorded Driving events once they are saved to your log. A trip that was auto-recorded as Driving cannot be changed to Personal Conveyance (PC), Yard Move (YM), or any other status, and it will stay on the driveline. You still have two important options:
- Add an annotation in the Driver App (driver action): You can add a note directly to the driving event explaining that it should have been Personal Conveyance (or another status). This annotation appears on your log and can be seen by officers during inspections for context.
- Ask your fleet admin to use Ignore Drive Time (admin action): Fleet Admins can use the Ignore Drive Time feature in the Motive Fleet Dashboard to internally treat that event as Off-Duty (PC), Yard Move (YM), or Waiting Time (WT) so your HOS clocks and violations are recalculated correctly.
My log is stuck on Driving for hours when I wasn’t actually driving. Can I change that driving time to Off Duty?
No. Automatically recorded Driving events from an ELD cannot be changed to Off Duty under ELD regulations, even if they were recorded incorrectly (for example, due to a stuck Driving state or malfunction). Here’s what you can do instead:
- Fix the issue first: If your Driver App is stuck in Driving, use the platform-specific troubleshooting steps for Duty Status update issues. If the problem is caused by an Vehicle Gateway issues, follow Vehicle Gateway malfunctions.
- Document what actually happened on the log: Add an annotation to the affected driving events explaining that the vehicle was not moving or that there was a device issue. This helps during inspections.
- Have your fleet admin adjust HOS internally using Ignore Drive Time: While you cannot reclassify ELD-recorded Driving to Off Duty, your fleet admin can use Ignore Drive Time on the Fleet Dashboard to treat that time as Off Duty/PC/YM/WT for HOS clocks and violation calculations, while the original Driving event remains on the official ELD record.
Our truck was moved during a mechanic/shop move and Motive recorded it as Driving. How do we fix it?
ELD-recorded Driving events cannot be deleted or reclassified on the official log after they are saved. If the vehicle movement happened during a mechanic/shop move or other non-driving situation, a fleet admin can use Ignore Drive Time to internally treat that event as Off-Duty (PC), Yard Move, or Waiting Time so the driver’s HOS and violations are recalculated correctly while the original ELD record remains intact.
Why don’t I see the Ignore incorrectly recorded drive time option when the driver was logged in and forgot to stop driving?
- Confirm the driver has signed that day’s log.
- Verify your user role has Ignore Drive Time enabled: Admin > Fleet Users > Roles & Permissions > Options > Edit > Compliance > Ignore Drive Time, then refresh or log out and back in.
- Then go back to Compliance > Logs > select the log > Edit Log > Edit on the driving event and check whether Ignore incorrectly recorded drive time appears there.
If it still does not appear, gather the driver name, vehicle ID, date/time range, and screenshots and contact Motive Support for help.
