On-Demand (Engine-Off) Video Recall

    Audience Fleet Managers, Fleet Admins
    Applies To Fleet Dashboard

    Introduction

Fleet Admins and Fleet Managers can now use On-Demand (Engine-Off) Video Recall to request and retrieve video from vehicles that are turned off. The Vehicle Gateway enables this by supporting Video Recall Requests in low-power mode, ensuring access to crucial footage at any time.

    What’s New?

The On-Demand (Engine-Off) Video Recall feature includes:

    • Low-power Mode: To ensure battery optimization while maintaining timely video recall request processing and following a structured check-in process.
      • The Vehicle Gateway enters a low-power mode 45 minutes after the vehicle is parked and the ignition is off.
      • In low-power mode, the Vehicle Gateway activates to check for pending video recall requests at scheduled intervals.
      • Initially, the system checks for a video recall request every two hours.
      • If no video recall request is found, the check-in interval progressively increases to four, eight, and finally twelve hours, after which the system maintains a twelve-hour check-in frequency.
      • Upon detecting a video recall request, the system immediately processes it and remains active for up to 20 minutes to handle any further video recall requests. Then the check-in interval resets to every two hours.
    • Request Processing: When a video recall request is detected, the Vehicle Gateway briefly powers on to retrieve and process the requested video, uploads it to the Fleet Dashboard, and returns to low-power mode.
    • Power Optimization: The Vehicle Gateway only draws the power necessary to complete each task, minimizing battery drain.

How does this help our customers?

This feature provides the following benefits to fleet users:

    • Enhanced incident investigation by allowing access to crucial video evidence, even when vehicles are parked with the ignition off.
    • Retrieving videos is now more convenient. Fleet users no longer need to wait for the vehicle to be turned on. Additionally, video upload speed is consistent, regardless of whether the ignition is on or off.
    • Increased operational efficiency by providing remote access to video footage, reducing the need for physical vehicle checks.

Rollout Plan or Feature Go-Live date?

The Engine-Off Video Recall feature is rolling out in May 2025.

    FAQs

Can fleets recall videos when the ignition is off?

Yes, video recalls can be requested from the Motive Fleet Dashboard while the ignition is off.

How often does the Vehicle Gateway wake up in low-power mode?

By default, every 2 hours, but this can be adjusted for the fleets.

Can video recall uploads be affected if the vehicle is parked?

No, upload speeds remain consistent regardless of the vehicle’s ignition status.

How long does the Vehicle Gateway wait before entering low-power mode?

The default time is 45 minutes. It is configurable by fleets.

What happens if a request is made while the Vehicle Gateway is in low-power mode?

The Vehicle Gateway processes the request at its next scheduled wake-up.

Can the wake-up frequency be adjusted?

Yes, but the default frequency remains 2 hours.

What happens if the Vehicle Gateway is disconnected from the vehicle?

If disconnected, the Vehicle Gateway doesn’t process video recall jobs.

Is this setting fleet-wide or per vehicle?

Initially, fleet-wide but vehicle-specific settings are expected in Q2.

    How is power management optimized?

The Vehicle Gateway only draws the power it needs when waking up, ensuring efficiency.
