Fleet admins can instantly create Virtual Cards for fleet users through the Motive Fleet Dashboard, enabling them to better control spend, especially for online transactions, one-off expenses, and large payments.
Overview
Motive Virtual Cards provide fleet users with a digital-only payment option for immediate transactions. You can easily access card details, review transaction history, and check spending limits directly from the Fleet Dashboard.
- Immediate Access: Quickly view all necessary card details (number, CVC, Expiry) for a transaction.
- Secure Use: Card details are hidden by default and require two-factor authentication to view.
- Spending Visibility: Easily review assigned cards, transactions, and assigned spending limits.
Viewing Motive virtual card details
Click the eye icon on the card.
Complete the two-factor authentication.
This will make the card's 16-digit number, CVC, and Expiry visible for 15 minutes.
- When one or more transaction metadata requirements are enabled, fleet users must enter the required details when unlocking the card.
Once the Virtual Card is unlocked, the message Card can be used for the next 30 minutes appears.
Reviewing virtual Motive card transactions
From the Fleet Dashboard, select either Cards > My Card or User Icon > My Cards.
Review Recent Transactions or click View All to see all transactions.
Viewing the assigned Motive virtual cards
Click the arrow next to My Cards to view virtual cards assigned to a fleet user.
Reviewing Motive virtual card limits
Click View Limits.
The screen shows the Max. no. of transactions and Max total spend, Time Limits, Spent Limits, Spend Categories, and Other information in Auto-Deactivation Rules.

How do I use the Motive Card?
The Motive Card is a secured chip corporate card that can be used for fuel, lodging, and business expenses. It can be used at any location within the United States, Mexico, and Canada that accepts a Mastercard.
- To use the Motive Card, insert it into the chip reader at the pump for fuel purchases.
- You can charge up to $500 at a time for fuel purchases.
- If you need to make a purchase over $500, you can make multiple transactions.
- You can charge up to $900 at a time at Love’s locations.
- Some point-of-sale card machines may require a zip code. It is the business address zip code provided during the card application process.
- There may also be fraud controls in place that require you to unlock the card with your assigned phone number before making a purchase. Once unlocked, the card is available for use for the next 30 minutes.
What are pending transactions?
Any Transactions made with a Motive Card can show a status of " Pending " for up to 48 - 72 hours. During this time, the fleet admin can reach out to merchant support services for the following requests:
- Fast-Track Pending Transactions
- Cancel any transaction
- Pre-Authorization Hold on Fuel & Amount
- Service issues.
Merchants should provide the Purchase details for transaction status updates, such as:
- Category
- Total amount
- Fuel Discounts (if any)
